Disk Recovery of Ext4 results in error code 10 with extended code: 458,771

Thread needs solution

Hi,
I am using TI 2014.
I have a backup that contains multiple partition backups containing both NTFS & Ext4.
When I try to recover the NTFS partition, it gives me no error. However, when I try to recover the Ext4 partition, it gives me the following error:
Failed to prepare operations. Error code: 10 'File system error is found. Consider checking the disk using Check Disk Utility.' with extended code: 458,771 'Inconsistent link count'

I have already chkdsk all the partitions of the disk and found no errors.
I have also validated the backup and found no errors.
Also, when I try to click on the option 'Recover files', I can see the individual Linux files in the window.

Please help as this Ext4 partition contains my Linux drive which I need very badly.
I am using Windows 8.1

Thanks & Regards,
Gaurav Kumar

Hello Gaurav,

the received error "Inconsistent Link Count" during recovery most likely means corrupted file system during backup.

If you want to run file system check on the source Linux partitions please run the following command: fsck

Then back it up again and check if the issue persists.

Hi Anna,

Thanks for the reply,
Actually the thing is that I had accidentally deleted the whole linux partition, and I am trying to recover the partition on a new unallocated space.
So, how do you suggest I should proceed now.
Is it possible that the backup is corrupted, although the validate backup command says it is fine?
I really need the linux partition.
Can you suggest a method by which I can manually recover all the files along with their proper security descriptors using Recover Files method to an ext4 partition?

Thanks in advance,
GK

Hello Gaurav,

we don't support in Acronis True Image 2014 file-level operations with Ext4 file system. And validation checks only consistency of the backup file itself and not consistency of the file system saved inside.

Is it possible to create a new partition on the unallocated space exactly of the same size as an original partition was? Recovery without resize might be possible even if file system inside the backup is corrupted. Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee anything here.

If it doesn't help I'll consult with our expert team what else can be done.

Thank you.
