Windows won't boot, can it be restored?
Hi all,
I have Acronis True Image 2013 and would like to set it up to back up to either 2nd drive or network.
In case say my Windows 7 gets corrupted can I restore to last good backup even though I can't get into windows? If so, can someone please post a link or video what needs to be done?
TIA

Thanks for the reply! I never got notification about new reply even though there's check mark on "Notify me when new comments are posted"
So I read the links you posted and I'm still confused on full, incremental and deferential schemes.
I've setup Acronis incremental test back up and I chose my whole C drive. It created full back and up about 23GB it was named MYPC-2014-02-19_full_b1_s1_v1.tib after that I added new file to my desktop and did manual backup it created another one named MYPC-2014-02-19_full_b1_s2_v1.tib but it was 2.2GB? third one was 480MB? The file that was added and deleted was less than 80MB.
I guess I should check option "Create a full version after every 5 incremental versions" otherwise my backup drive will fill up pretty fast.
Whole reason why I bought True Image is to be able to recover windows in case it gets corrupted and can't boot.
Lets say I buy another version and install it on other computer can I use same Bootable Media Disk that was created on 1st computer or its computer specific?

If you're backing up your PC, either the entire disk or the Windows partition, then a boot disc, CD or DVD, will be sufficient to recover the partition. Make regular Full backups of your installation and store them on a separate drive or a separate partition on your hard drive.
Separate, external drive backups are better to keep away from a disc failure.
Remember, these are FULL backups not incremental or differential. For Windows installations one a week or monthly should be enough if you're just worried about the operating system failure.
If you keep your work in My Documents or similar they can be backed up separately and regularly.

Thanks for the reply!
I'm storing them on a completely separate drive. So the size of those backups is normal?
I understand that first backup is full and the rest are incremental but the size of others is kinda big. This particular computer does not have any important documents I just need it recover in case it wont boot.

Remember that ATI backs up at the sector level, and Windows makes a lot of changes, even if you don't make file changes yourself: indexes, volume information, defragmentation, etc.
I am puzzled by the fact that you got the following files:
MYPC-2014-02-19_full_b1_s1_v1.tib
MYPC-2014-02-19_full_b1_s2_v1.tib
The second one should be
MYPC-2014-02-19_inc_b1_s2_v1.tib

Sorry for the confusion. Here's what I have in my backup folder.

If you wish to have a bootable disk image then when in the backup screen at top center of screen choose Disk Mode backup. This will allow you to copy all partitons on the disk both hidden and visible so that recovery of such a backup results in a bootable disk.

JohnnyBeGood,
As Bob has suggested in the preceding post, his suggestion for a complete disk image is a very good suggestion. This is illustrated in veriy first picture of link 2 below.
Also, the editing or changing of an existing task is discouraged as the results are usually not what you expect and the edits just delays the eventual crea1tion of new task a task anyway. My suggestion would be to stop using the current task and create a new task with the automatic cleanup feature. This is illustrated in signature link 2 below, illustration 11-Inc.
