why is the serial number sooooo long?
Just bought version 2014 TI.
I contacted Acronis to see if/where on the disk I could find the S/N. I was told it was in the installation file- well no such luck. I forgot to ask the tech support (and since she was wrong about the disk), I'll ask here.
Does any one know why the S/N is so long? My car's VIN is shorter. Norton's (anti-virus) also shorter (and NO dashes too) - now that software I could see having a long number as its security related - if anyone from Norton reading this, plz no ideas about adding more letters/numbers to your S/N.

The normal 64 character serial can be normally found inside the email from your purchase.
check spam account if necessary.
Once you have the serial, then log into your Acornis personal webaccount and register the serial.
This must be done by the user. Refer signature #9 below.

what e-mail would that be?
Note: I have an actual disk/hardcopy/boxed version.
Sure the envelope has a sticker with the S/N on. But seems the longer the number the higher chance for entering the wrong characters.

OK. The 64 char serial is part of the retail pkg.
Get a magnifying glass (yes, save some time and find one as you need all the help you can find to see it correctly),
magnify the number and be especially careful because many numbers look the same such as a numeric 8 and the capitol letter B, etc and write down the number into Notepad.
From notepad, then paste the number into your o online account for registration.
When installing, also paste from notepad via control V.

So use Notepad - NOT Word?
Also since I have your attention:
2. Lets say some time in the future my Win 7 PC needs to be reimaged - but from a Acronis T.I. version 2012 file? Is there anything special I need to do OR will v 2014 be backwards compatible in reading an older file?
3. Is there a way to upgrade to the Premium version of TI? My concern is- what if in the future I need to replace the mother board? - I understand the 'regular' version wont work if the motherboard is new.
THX

Yes Notepad as you want plain text.
2014 will read prior versions and restore prior versions but always a good idea to retain the old TI Recovery cd. Use a Sharpie pen and write the model and serial on the CD.
The premium will only be available during its release time.
If the 2015 is released, the 2014 premium will not be available for sale--or at least that is the way it has been in the past.
But the 2015 premium be usable for you old backups.
The preferred backup type you need for restoring to dis-similar is the disk image or disk mode backup. See link #2 below and review very first picture. And as I have your attention as you have mine, also review link 2, illustrations 11-Full; or 11-Inc or 11-Dif, depending upon which type you use.
