backup target volume label

Thread needs solution

As I have only scheduled backups and I backup to a removable drive, it may happen that the taget drive has a different volume label with respect to the scheduled one.
Do there is a way to bind the backup target to the drive characteristics, other then the drive letter?

Hello Manlio,

Let me clarify this situation for you.

When you're scheduling the task to some removable drive, product refers to the drive letter and unique drive ID, which Windows assigns to each plugged device. This ID changes each time you plug the drive to USB port.

Unfortunately, current versions of the product do not allow you to bind the device with some different parameters. Probably this feature will be implemented in the future.

Thank you for your understanding!

Best regards,

It should work if you use the same drive and the same port each time -- at least it worked fine on older versions of ATI.

Otherwise, you're probably stuck with using batch files to execute the right series of commands.

Plugging a different device into the same USB port will probably not solve the problem. Try this (it works for me):
Plug each thumb-drive (or device) that you intend to use for your backups into the USB port one at a time. Go to disk management (Control panel--> Administrative Tools --> Computer Management --> Disk Management). Now select the USB drive and choose "Change drive letter and paths" and change the drive letter to whatever you're destination should be set to. That USB drive will retain that driv eletter no matter which port you plug it into.

Hope that helps.

Just be careful that you don't plug it into a pc that already has a drive withat letter designation. The USB drive can then appear to not be recognised. Assigning a dirve letter farther down the alphabet, to an unused letter will solve/avoid that problem.
