Image missing all files from Documents and settings

Thread needs solution

I'm running 2011 and need to restore a Win7 image but it is missing all the files under Documents and settings. It won't restore but I can open it to view the contents. I also kept my first image as a safety net but it is also missing the same files. I've used Acronis but at home and at work for over ten years and I've never seen this before and it's a major problem right now. Obviously these files can't be restored since they're absent but an explanation as to a possible cause would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Daniel,
In windows 7 Documents and Settings is a pointer. No data exists there. Libraries are stored under Users>User Name>My Documents , Pictures or Music. By default you cannot open this folder unless you assign permissions. Doing this compromises file system integrity.

I suggest that you create one or more full disk image back ups. Validate these back ups. Mount and browse the images. If this can be done, you can assume with a high degree of certainty that your images will restore properly in the event of failure.

Thank you, I will try that. I admit I'm still a little turned around by some of the changes in W7. I still sometimes call folders, directories so that's how old I am. :-)
