Why take Both Partition and File Backups?

Thread needs solution

I am new to backups and Acronis True Image 2014. I’ve been doing both Partition and File backups for several days now, and things seem to be going fine. I’ve learned that my Partition Backup seems to contain all the files I’m backing up in File Backup. Question: why is it prudent to do both Partition and File backups, can’t I get along with just the Partition Backup and save some disk space and time?

Regards,
Bob

Belt and suspenders. Sometimes it's useful to have more than one type of backup. If ever you can't recover the partition backup, you can always use the files from the file backup.

But, you should create a full disk mode backup. That is superior to a partition backup, and ensures you will have everything needed to recover an entire working system, even to a brand new replacement drive.

I do full disk mode backups using ATI, but I also do file-based backups via Robocopy mirroring. Both backups are useful to me, for different reasons, and together they create more redundancy and more security.

I just use disk backups - daily - and that way I have everything including the capacity to recover individual files or a whole working system.

I appreciate the comments and advice. Since my most important data files are backed up to the cloud independent of Acronis, I will probably discontinue the Acronis File Backups.
