prevent shutdown/reboot while doing backup

Thread needs solution

Hi,

I have read many posts in this forum complaining about TI blocking proper Windows shutdown. So I was wondering why mine is not able to do this, even when it is supposed to. I'm using TI 2014 on a time schedule to backup my partitions to a network share. That takes a while for full ones. If I shut down windows during that, I'd expect TI to delay this until the backup is done. But it does not. Instead it cancels the operation, leaving gigabytes of incomplete tib behind. So what might be wrong? Is this expected behaviour?

With best regards,
Alex

Yes. Unfortunately, That is the ecpected behavior. There is no pause option. Once the backup begins, the backup must be allowed to complete. If interruppted, the backuip will cancel and user must restart. Some user cleanup of old files may be needed.

Thanks for your answer.
But from other threads I've learned that Acronis sometimes blocks the shutdown with this "Operations are in progress, please wait". So it is definitely able to do this. In fact, if I choose to do a backup on shutdown instead of using a time schedule, it has to. Maybe I should ask Acronis support about it.

I don't really need this for myself, but I'm using TI to backup my parents' PC, too. They often don't notice that a backup is running and shut down too early. I simply cannot expect them to care about that stuff, it has to work automatically.
I'll have a look on "backup on shutdown" mode. If this works, it might be an alternative in that case. Although it would be better if it could be combined with a time schedule or some popup asking if the user wants to run the backup now.

Best wishes,
Alex
