TI Home Update 2 Build 7119 - all Backup files are corrupt

Thread needs solution

What a nice surprise.

About 2 years ago we made a backup of ca. 500GB on four different hard disks and stored them in different places, just to be safe.

Now, as we need some fils back, TI - same version - tells us for all files that they are corrupt. It suggests that we have a hardware problem. Sorry, did you say that all our hard disks that we stored in different steel cabinets in different locations are all defective? We checked all of them, and we even asked our hardware guru to double and triple check them, they are in perfect condition.

Only the Acronis backup files are defective, nothing else.

Any ideas what we can do?

"Corrupted" is, unfortunately, a rather non-specific error message, in spite of its rather specific sounding term. It really just means that ATI can't validate the archive, which can be caused by disk errors or connection errors, rather than any problems with the .tib file itself.

Run chkdsk /r on each partition of the internal drive, and on the external HD. If there are hidden partitions, assign letters to them so you can chkdsk.
Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.

Don't connect via a hub, a port in a monitor, a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case.

What method or version are you using to attempt the restore? From Windows, version ? or which version of TrueImage.

This message will appear if the version be used to attempt the restore is OLDER than the version used to create the files.

Why not try using the newest version of 2014 which can be the free 30 day trial version or a licensed version CD from your current Acronis web account. Item #9 inside my signature below.

We did all that. All hardware works fine. We connected the disks like this:

- External USB3 drive container
- External eSATA box
- Inside the PC directly via SATA cable

In all cases chkdsk tells us that everything is fine. Our expert also used a different tool, but I can't recall the name.

As I said, we have the same problem on all disks. Two of them are Seagates, two are Samsungs. We have other disks from the same manufacturers that were used with Freefilesync as a kind of backup for other purposes, and they all work fine - we checked all our other backup media, 22 disks and many tapes. The only problem is with these Acronis backup files.

We used the same version to create the backup and to restore.

Grover, we will try the 30-day demo solution. It's all on Windows 7/64bit, by the way.

You may also want to try the file restore from a different computer (still booted up using the TI Recovery CD) just in case there is a hardware conflict with the original computer giving you the corrup message.

If your are a 2014 registered owner, the trial is not necessary as you can just download the most recent ISO bootable media file and burn an individual recovery CD.
