Cloning

Thread needs solution

I currently have Acronis True Image 11 and just purchased a 2TB WD hard drive that I wish to install in my Windows 7 computer. I wish to completely transfer all my programs and settings to the new hard drive as effortlessly as possible. I currently have a 250 gig hard drive in place that I wish to transfer from. I would appreciate any help I can get as I know little about the Acronis program I own. other than the back-up settings. A step by step procedure would be a God Send. Both these hard drives are Sata if that makes any difference.

Hello Richard,

I understand the question and will do everything possible from my side to solve the issue.

Acronis software can’t transfer only applications with their settings to another operating system. You can of course use “Clone Disk” option but it will clone an operating system as well. So the destination drive will be formatted during the clone process.

There is a backup option “My Application Settings” that lets you back up custom settings of Windows applications, as well as image files, video, audio and playlist files and your System State data. Via My Application Settings you can only back up settings, and not the application executable files.

The second note is incompatibility of Acronis True Image 11 Home and Windows 7. I may recommend you upgrade  Acronis True Image 11 Home to Acronis True Image Home 2010 just for $29.99 using our online store. I may also recommend you to download free trial version of Acronis True Image Home 2010 and test it first.

Let me know if you need further assistance.

Thank you.
