xp user going to win7
hi all, i have been using Acronis for about 2 yrs. now love it, even though i am 70 i haven't really had a problem Yet. however i have a question i just purchased window7 Pro and i know they say that you must do a clean install if your a XP used, thais is not really true i use a program by Laplink called PC mover and i can more or less transfer all my settings and software to win7 now what i want to lknow is.. can i make a back-up of all my programs except XP using acronis true home 2010 and restore it to new clean install of windows 7 i f so i believe a clean install and a recover would be better than what i have now by using PCmover, thanks in advance this is my 1st. post and i have no idea where i will see the answers if there are any, so i will enter my email and hope some1 will send me info.. if i have broken any rules please excuse and delete thanks .. gerry AKA nomoney <e-mail address removed due to security safety>

Hello nomoney and DwnNDrty!
Thank you for finding time to open the thread and many thanks to DwnNDrty for his valuable comment. I entirely understand your question and will be glad to assist you with it!
Unfortunately in case you are moving from Windows XP to Windows 7 backing up programs is useless: due to the differences in OS architecture restored application simply won't work, so you will anyway have to reinstall them manually. Also please note that should you backup the XP entirely on recovery it will overwrite the Windows 7 installed.
For your scenario I would advise you to backup the data only in order to be able to recover it by one click - for this please Files and Folders backup as shown on the screeshot and proceed with specifying the documents and folders that should be backed up. I would also advise to you to take a look at the chapter 6.3.4. of the User's Guide for more details.
Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!
Thank you!
