Acronis home 2013 runs to 90% completion and yields a strange error and stops
It runs well in the beginning and at the end yields the following event code set
01e50013 + 01e50018 + 000b041d + 00040011 + 0000fff0 + 80070002
What error does this indicate and how can it be fixed?

Doing a full backup on a Windows 7 machine to a Western Digital portable drive connected via USB.

Do the backups complete and create a .tib file? If so, validate it.
Don't connect via a hub, a port in a monitor, a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case.

There is only a short cable in the back of the drive and that is directly connected to a usb port on the laptop. Is that ok and if not how can I make a shorter connection?

Try another port.
You didn't answer my other question.

There is nothing else connected to the computer. Why would another port help?
What do the codes mean?

I've been giving support on various forums for a long time. I have certain guidelines, which includes that there's little point continuing if the help requester ignores my questions. I don't ask questions for fun; I do so to better understand and reveal the situation. When the requester won't answer them, it requires me to guess too much and waste my time.
I hope you get your issue solved.

I'm sorry but I answered your questions to the best of my ability? What question didn't I answer? I'll be glad to answer any question but I described the system and that nothing is attached.
What else can I answer?

I assumed that no tib file was produced since it didn't run to completion but I will check again.

More info about the target disk might help--name-model-size.
Check to make sure you have the latest firmware and drivers.

A tib file was created with the failed backup. Western Digital - mypassport ulra - 1 tb

What I wrote many posts ago still holds: validate the .tib archive.

Would it be validated if I am able to access it via Acronis?

When recover is selected it says - can't find version 1

In post #11, please post the exact and full name of the backup files.
A sreen capture of the storage folder would help.
Right now, the possibility of a recovery using that backup file is not good.

Can I download the latest Acronis for 2013 to see if that fixes the problem?
- Anmelden, um Kommentare verfassen zu können

Yes, you can download any of the 2013 TrueImage installation and iso files from you account. Check my signature link 9 below for help.
If you restart the installation file, it will offer a repair option.
Open Windows explorer and browse to your tib storage folder.
Right click on the most recent file and from the Right click menu,
choose the TrueImage folder. choose the archive folder and choose the Validate option. This will attempt to validate the entire file.
If that fails, then retry again but this time, right click on the 2nd most recent and try the validation again.
This will attempt to validate only the first two pieces.
if that also fails, then right click on the full backup and try the validation again. This will attempt to validate only the single full backup.
Also, Attach your WD passport and then, check the start menu and see if you have a Western Digital folder with a couple menu options. One should be a utility. This utility can be used to check if your passport has the lates firmware. 'The passport and caused issue for many. It needs its most recent firmware and driver.
As you had backup problems, another step would be to check your Windows disk (all partition--even non-lettered partitions) for possible disk errors.
Windows Disk management can be used to assign a tempory drive letter if you have partitions without letters, as they need letters in order to be checked for errors. When done checkingl remove an drive letters assigned by you.
If you have trouble finding the validation opiton, look carefully after RIGHT clicing on the tib file and the TI folder should be listed on the right click menu.
