Failed to read data from disk

Thread needs solution

I am running Acronis Home 2010 on a vista laptop and getting the following error:

Details: Failed to read data from the disk.
Failed to read from sector '480,483,579' of hard disk '1'.
Failed to read the snapshot. (0x10C45A)
CRC error (0x100155): ⎂Retry/⎂Ignore/Ignore ⎂All/⎂Cancel

If I select "ignore," it will complete the backup and says it completed with errors. I have the back up task set up to ignore bad sectors on the error handling option, but it always stops with this error anyway. I've run chkdsk /f twice and it does not resolve the problem.

I am concerned the back up images may not be usable. I would also like to find a way to keep Acronis from always stumbling on this same sector. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same type of error, running Acronis Home 2010 13.0.0.6053 . Even when configured to "ignore bad sectors" with or without sending message alerts, the backup job always halts a my same bad sectors and requires me to "ignore" at the spot...I have become accustomed to waiting around for about 10 minutes for these messages to arrive so I can attend to them...if I don't the job crashes.

run chkdsk X: /r where X is the drive letter of the partition being tested. Then examine the report in the Event viewer.

The /r does a complete check of every sector in the partition so it takes some time.

A CRC error means the data from the disk sectors is not being read correctly, usually because of a bad sector. Doesn't let TI off the hook completely but I'd be doing a careful check of the disk first. You can also download the drive manufacturer's diagnostic program and run it.

Acronis in TI2010 has a system report utility (under Help, IIRC). If it is the same as the report utility that you used to download from Acronis you may find (after looking carefully in the disk text file) a bad sector note. The TI report tool appeared to be very good at finding bad sectors that may have passed other tests.
