free space before restoring says 1.000MB

Thread needs solution

I have a problem that tech support couldn't figure out. When I attempt to restore a full backup, it says that my free space before the backup is 1.000MB and after restoring, it will be 0MB; I actually had 3GB free. When tech support tried helping me, they connected into my PC and selected to restore to my 1.5TB drive that had 1.3TB free and it did the same exact thing. I though maybe I had corrupt data or something. Today, I purchased a new netbook for other reasons and after I got it set up just like I want, I did a backup and immediately went to restore the back and it did the same exact thing. I've used Acronis in the past with a company I used to work for and that's why I purchased it; it's a good product. But now I'm thinking maybe I should have saved my money for something else. Can anyone please tell me what's going on here?

I have the same problem. I have restored an 80GB drive. the full backup has about 30GB of data on it. The restored drive shows 30GB data and 50GB free in WINXP SP3. PartEdMagic shows no free space and says the drive has some bad sectors. It instructs " run chkdsk /f /r under windows and reboot twice!" but it still has the same result and won't resize the partition. PQMagic shows no free space on the drive so won't resize the partition.

Beefore restoring, both routines will partition and fprmat the drive OK.

My original intention was to partition the disk, now I'm wasting my time killing alligators not draining the swamp...argh!!!

Can anybody help us, please?
