True Image 2014 Pro does not back up ssd drive
I am using True Image 2014 Pro and never had a problem. I now installed it on a new laptop with an ssd drive. When I try to back up this drive toi an external hdd the program first is working properly. After about one hour, and after it looks as if the backup is completed, I notice the message (not very enlightening) that the backup has failed, and on the harddisk there is only a folder with the name of the backup, but in that folder there is no backup file. I tried a few times but unfortunately always with the same result.

Thanks. My SSD is 512 GB and I created a second partition on it. I am trying to back up the entire disk with partitions c and d, and assorted other little partitions. The amount of data I am backing up is app. 350 GB, and so it wouldn't fit on a DVD. -- Can one also back up to a Blue Ray disk?

Hello,
backing up to a DVD will take very very long. I asume the same is true for Blue Ray Disks.
I would recommend to use an external USB 3.0 Hard Drive - 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch - that does not matter.
I use a Toshiba DTP120 2TB 2.5 Disk - Part number HDTP120EK3CA for my tablet and my laptop.
The drives are not that expensive anymore and you get a lot more security and safety.
E.g. Toshiba Canvio Basics HDTB320EK3CA external Harddrive USB 3.0 2TB 6,4 cm (2,5 Zoll), 5400rpm, SATA) black
EUR 85,39 - Amazon Germany ---- 3.5 inch disks are even cheaper.
You even can backup your data (from the D: drive) just as a file copy to this drive which allows a fast recovery if you unintentionally destroyed some data files.
An external HDD allows to hold several generations of Acronis backups.
3 generations is in my oppinion advisable: son, father, grandfather
(But be aware, if you delete the 4th generation (grand grandfather) from the backup storage media just remove only the entry and not the complete backup from the Acronis list. If you remove the complete backup, it sometimes happens - at least under WIN 8.1 - that the computer does not completely shut down - it hangs for an infinite time with a message, that the computer is currently shutting down ;-(( . This is an old well known Acronis error which has according to my knowledge not yet been corrected.) .
You can later delete the files from the backup drive using a file delete via the explorer.
I would also recommend to backup the various partitions seperately. If you seperate the Windows Partition ( C:/ ) from the data partition ( D:/ ) you can recover it also seperately and more easily - and it saves time - because normally only the System (and SysRes) partition fails (due to viruses and unwanted software).
The data partition very seldom has an error or gets infected.
Good luck
Regards
Wolfgang

Hi Wieland,
Hope you have found a solution for your problem. If not, did you notice if there is a so called "hibernation" hidden partition in your drive? You may not see it in Windows Explorer, but it would be listed by TI in the list of partitions for backup. If you have it, then the problem is probably there...
