Restoring Windows 7 64 bit image to an SSD HDD fails

Thread needs solution

Just recently I installed Windows 7 64 bit OS in the VMWARE workstation. Installed all the necessary software. Then booting from WinPE iso I started Acronis True Image and did a backup of just volume C: (OS had 2 volumes - C: and D:) where the OS was installed. The restore procedure just went fine.

Some time later I got a new laptop Lenovo G505s and just decided to restore my previous TIB image.
What I did before restoring was to delete all the volumes from HDD and creating 2 volumes C: and D:
I restored an image onto the C: volume and the operation finished without any errors.

But the problem is the OS doesn't boot. I did it several times but no success. Just to indicate that the laptop HDD is SSD.

Please advice what I'm doing wrong.

This concerns me. Often the boot files do not exist on C:, but on a hidden partition. You could see this in Windows Disk Management. It is safer to perform a full disk mode backup, to capture everything on the disk rather than just C:.

You should be able to add the boot files to the new system, but I'll let someone else advise you on steps for that.

2. You restored to a different laptop with different hardware. That would require the use of Universal Restore, and you'd need to inject appropriate hardware drivers for the new hardware. Lack of that could cause non-boot.

3. I don't know what implications VMWARE might have, so someone else can address that.

Do you still have access to the original system.
