Clone Does Not see External HDD

Thread needs solution

Howdy

I have bought a SSD (480GB) from Kingston and am attempting to Clone my laptops HDD (360GB). This SSD comes with ATI cloning software. I inserted the new SSD into the laptop, changed the BIOS to load from CD (Boot Mode = "Legacy"), connected the USB Drive (holding the laptops HDD) and restarted the laptop.

The ATI software launched, and I selected Clone Disk (automatic), but when it asks me to select the Source Disk, the external USB does not show as a selectable option.

My laptop is a Sony Vaio: Model: SVE1712C5E, running on Windows 8.1 (upgraded from Windows 8).

I have subsequent purchased ATI 2015, as I like what this software does. Before I create a bootable disk from this software to attempt cloning, is there anything else I should be considering as to why the clone does not show the external HDD as a Source?

In assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Les

I created the bootable disk using the AT1 2015, and the clone process has worked just nicely. Playing around with the laptop, everything seems to be working nicely. Possibly a dodgy disk Kingston sent me. Who knows.

Cheers

Greetings Les,
Glad to hear you got a clone of your drive working. For next time, you might consider creating a full disk image backup and restoring it to a new disk. The is safer and offers greater restore flexibility.

Many thanks for your reply shadowsports

I will definitely consider a full disk image in future. I was only following the vendors instructions going down the clone path (as I am not used to this cloning \ restoring work). However from reading the guides \ forum posts that are available for this product, it does give me a much wider functionality and confidence to go the full disk image route.
