Corrupted Backup File

Thread needs solution

I created a backup file with True Image.

This file is bigger than 350gb. When I tested it after backup, it was working.

Then, I moved it to another external harddisk. It was still working with no error.

about 4-5 days later when I'm trying to open .tib file, software tells me "corrupted file" error.

I did everything on this forum and internet (chkdsk /r, copy to another drive etc...) but it still doesnt work.

This backup file is includes all my life's datas. I have to take them back... I have only this backup file.

I tried to convert it to iso or something like that (not to original backup file, tried it on a copy) but I couldnt..

I just need to access files and folders, I dont need to restore my system. If i can open it as an archive or something like that, I can copy my important files. Is there any way to mount it as a virtual drive, as a winrar archive, or as a iso file?

Note: I backup my C and D drives into that backup. I can't explore and I can't restore this backup

Please help me...

"Corrupted" is, unfortunately, a rather non-specific error message, in spite of its rather specific sounding term. It really just means that ATI can't validate the archive, which can be caused by disk errors or connection errors, rather than any problems with the .tib file itself.

Run chkdsk /r on that drive.
Also run a drive checking utility from the drive manufacturer, as those sometimes catch errors missed by chkdsk.

Don't connect via a hub, a port in a monitor, a USB extension cord, etc. Connect the external drive directly to a USB port on the rear of the computer case. See if that works better.

As I said in my first message, I did chkdsk.

I tried to open it as primary device and as external device. Both of them did not make the backup working.

I tried everything what I find on this forum to save this backup.

I need more specific solution... I tried my chance ith 7zip, rar, zip etc... to unpack it but as you guess they cannot unpack the backup.

As you know, if you rar something and if the archive get corrupted, you still can reach a lot of files in the archive. For archives, some files could get corrupted but you can always reach or unpack not-corrupted files.... I hope this for my backup. Maybe, there is some solutions for reaching files on my backup.

I think the backup file corrupted because of some bad sectors. But the point is that: this backup was working perfectly. It corrupted later. the backup contains about 500 thousand files.

Is there any way to unpack it without true image program? (bootable acronis did not open it too, i tried to change permission too, i tried chkdsk too.)

There must be something to save these files...

Files, any Windows files, can become corrupted due to disk errors. If your disk had bad sectors, as you suspect, then the .tib archive could be unrecoverable.

No, no other software will be able to open that .tib archive.

You could try copying the archive to another drive and try validating it from there. Boot from the bootable Rescue Media and validate it with that.

Thanks, I'm waiting for a new disk. When I got it I'll try copy it.

Thanks for your interest. I'll write here the results.

Note for acronis users: dont backup your data just one. Backup your file minimum 2 different place (cloud, external disk etc...) I think I lost my child memories.

Please let me know if anyone got any solution in anytime. I'll keep corrupted backup until I die :) Hope...

Some ways to mitigate the risk of your .tib archives failing on a bad disk: store multiple .tib archives from various dates; don't store them all on a single disk; supplement your images with file-based backup of your user data files.

The size you are mentioning for a backup file seems extremely large.

Is this a files and folders backup or a disk image?

What compression if any did you use?

What type of file is contained within the tib,JPGs, RAW photos, videos?

Did you make a sector by sector file?

If the file was OK, you would be able to explore it by double clicking on the tib file, if a disk or partition image was made you can mount it in addition to exploring.

If you attempt to recover or open the file from the True Image recovery CD what happens?

Try validating the file from the CD.

Does the tib file report itself as zero bytes?

the file is contains two disks complete backup. C and D.

I did not use any compression software on the backup file

The backup contains everytype file (dll, exe, zip, jpg, doc, xls etc...)

I made a chkdisk but I dont know what do you mean "sector by sector"? is it an another technic?

file is not okay and I cant explore it :/

I tried to do that on a cd and usb stick but it did not show any difference, error again.

I did not see a message as zero bytes.

I hope I give you positive answers.

Colin wasn't asking about separate compression software. In the True Image settings for a backup, you can choose from four compression levels. I always choose maximum compression. What level did you choose?

How much data are on the two original drives, the drives that you backed up? You say the backup is 300 GB, so are there 500 GB of data on the drives, 600 GB?

Do you have a lot of file types that are already compressed, such as video or audio files (FLAC, MP3, AIFF, AVI, etc.)? Those can't be compressed further, so they can cause backups to be quite large.

Did you run chkdsk /r on both disks, and the backup disk? It is a more complete test than chkdsk /f

"sector by sector" is another True Image option when creating a backup. If you chose that, backup will be very large for no benefit. You should not choose that option.

I'm still looking for a solution but there is nothing. I also tried 2014 version but it did not fix my problem...

Hey guys, if you are reading; don't use Acronis on your important data. What is the expectation from a data backup software? Saving your data! What Acronis doing is this; getting harder to keep your files save!

If you copy your files to another drive and if a file get corrupted, you just lose a one file! But if you use Acronis to save your files, if those files include one corupted file; acronis won't open the all backup archive because of one corrupted file!

I lost my child memories, because I trust this software. Because I used this software to backup my files! I'll hate this company and his employees until I die!

If any of you caring about your files, DON'T USE ACRONIS!

I'm clicking to "mount" everyweek. And im looking for a miracle. But guess what? Acronis just says this: "This is corrupted, sorry!".

Thank you guys... Everyday im asking myself "why didn't I used classic copy/paste way to backup my files, why?". The answer is that "im stupid".

I really hope acronis to go bankrupt as soon as possible.

I'm sure you are frustrated, and sad, but the reality is maybe you didn't take the necessary precautions to protect yourself from data loss. I'm sure you learned a valuable lesson. Sorry it was the hard way.

Yet he thought he was by using this pos, he is correct that he would have been better off just using copy and paste.

So since they can not even put together a post site that tracks what you replied to with out you quoting it , did you ever solve your problem as mine is similar.
Acronis reformatted and destroyed file structure of my destination drive only to tell me after 6.5 hours that a validated backup failed because of a corrupt file error 0x70019, and that is as I said after it validated the backup as good.
