Backups that validate under Windows reported as corrupt by boot media
I always validate my backup images when creating them (Windows). They have always validated. Occasionally I validate a recent backup using my bootable media for ATI2015 since I want to be able to do disaster recoveries. Twice now I have had the bootable version report a backup as corrupt after it validated under the windows version?
What is going on?

The bootable is the same version.
Yes, it is essential that the bootable media be able to fully utilize the backup.
I suspect there are various reasons why a backup might become corrupted, but the problem here is: why does the Windows installation report the backup as validated, but the bootable media version report it as corrupt.
Makes ATI difficult to trust.

Joe,
This happened to me when I was using a WD mycloud NAS. The files would validate fine in Windows, but the recovery CD couldn't restore them. The workaround was to copy the files onto a USB disk for restoring. Certainly inconvenient...

I would also recommend you try using the WinPE version of the recovery media instead of the Linux version.

Thanks,
I do my backups on an internal SATAII drive so the network storage shouldn't be a problem.
I am not familiar with WinPE. Is that a different form of bootable recovery media that I can create with ATI2015? (Ah, just found it in the ATI2015 docs)

The WinPE bootable media checked the same backup and validated it.
So the score is
Windows installation: validated at time of creation
Linux bootable : validation=corrupt
WinPE bootable : validation='successfully checked'
Not quite sure what this means. Does this mean I should just not use the Linux bootable?

It does mean you should not use the Linux media. The problem with the Linux media is lack of hardware support. Many people find it will not successfully boot on their computer. In your case, it boots but does not reliably read the hard drive where your backups are stored.
I wish Acronis would stop using the Linux media. So many problems would be solved.

Quote below from From ATI 2014 User Guide
Section 7.1.1.2 page 106...
Boot from the rescue media and validate the backup you want to use for recovery. This is necessary because, when a backup is validated in the recovery environment, the program sometimes declares it corrupted though it has been successfully validated in Windows. This may be due to the fact that Acronis True Image 2014 uses different device drivers in Windows and in the recovery environment. If Acronis True Image 2014 considers the backup corrupted, it will not proceed with recovery.
The above in bold is an unsettling statement... validation in the Windows environment is not the same as validation in the recovery environment

I am interested in this as I have similar problems (see similar topic earlier to-day) - now, never did in the past. Have used TI for 8 years with no problem, until last Friday. Upgraded to TI2015 1/12/2014, seemed OK. Last good backup was 12/12/2014. All backups are done with bootable media (Linux), full partition, split to 1.4GB files, validate after backup. Main disk is 250GB SSD (NTFS boot partition XP Pro + SP3), backup is a USB 360GB external drive (also NTFS).
All of a sudden from 3/1/2015 the boot media validate has started to fail - there has been no change to the system, and it is working fine. All disks chkdsk OK.
It is unreliable, sometimes validate (done from bootable media) will work, then on a revalidate will fail. Sometimes it will fail then on a revalidate appear OK. So I think the backups are actually OK (and they always validate OK with the Windows installed app), but that is irrelevant if the tool to restore in the case of disaster thinks they might not be, in any case the Windows app validates so fast (5-10 secs for a 30GB backup) that it cannot really be doing much.
The only boot media that always seems to validate OK is an old TI2012 boot media.
None of this ever happened before mid-December, and the one thing I cannot afford is untrustworthy backup. I've used the chat and the Acronis person said Linux/WinPE bootable media makes no difference, however, I'm keen to try the WinPE.
When I go to create the media, it seems I need to download one of Windows PE 2.0, 2.1, 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0 first. Not entirely sure what it is - which do I use? The only ones that appear to support XP are 2.0 and 2.1?
Acronis has been 100% solid for me since 2006, but what with this, and the fact that DD12 made the system totally unbootable on resizing a partition a few weeks ago, I am starting to lose confidence fast.
