Operation Is Not Supported

Thread needs solution

True Image worked fine for about three weeks after I installed it last month. I had a daily backup scheduled. I just noticed that the last one it did was June 28. So I tried to do a manual backup. It prepared for about five minutes then reported the error "Operation is not supported to specify another location click browse."

The external drive I'm trying to back up to works fine. I can see all of the backups done through June 28 under /my backups/my partitions. There is plenty of room left on the hard drive.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Did you assign a fixed drive letter to the external drive? If not, is it possible that the letter changed since you created the backup task?

What message are you conveying?

What drive letter was used at the backup disk target ? Was it J ?
Looking at Windows Exlorer now, is J the letter that is currently assigned to the backup disk?

To avoid the unwanted change of drive letters often caused by the insertion of a flashdrive or camera or usb printer, etc.
it is wise to assign a drive letter such as x or y or z which will remain unchanged by the insertion of a temporary device.
If this is your situation, assign a new higher drive letter and create a new task pointing to a new and empty sub-folder.

I reformatted my hard drive and tried to create a whole new back up from scratch. Tried three times and it timed out every time. I have the time out slider on the software set to infinity.

I uninstalled the program and tried a clean reinstall. Same thing--it will write to the hard drive for five minutes or so and say, "Operation is not supported to specify another location click browse."

Hello Steven,

welcome to Acronis Forum!

tuttle, GroverH thank you for helping!

Steven, could you please attach your external drive and generate a system report, as it is described here.

Send me this report via private message https://forum.acronis.com/messages/new/36716 , so that we can analyze it.

Let me know, if you need any assistance with it.

Thank you.

I am having the same problem as described above. My backup drive, which my system names J:, so I reformatted it and tried to do a new backup. Acronis shows the target as J: It worked fine for more than a year. But now it says "the operation is not supported." See attached screen shot. No matter what I click, it will continue for a while then do the same thing.

Could be a registry error. Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

Look for key WriteProtect. The key value should be 0. If value is 1 change to 0.
