Unable to backup from a NAS to online backup

Thread needs solution

I want to backp my photos which I have located on a central NAS so anyone on the network can access them. I have purchased Acronis online backup space and the Plus pack. I can setup the backup the way I want it. However I get a problem whenever I backup and the following is always in the log.

Shared lock is not supported by the filestream

Locking partition C:....

Operation has been aborted

I would really appreciate some help with this, I purchased this software as I wanted one backup solution for everything

Many Thanks

Vince

Vince,

I wanted to do the same thing and noticed a "failure to create snapshot file" error. The chat support people basically told me that TIH won't backup NAS data to the online service. It's more of a technical limitation it seems since the NAS boxes basically run on linux and they're having trouble dumping this file there. If it were a windows box (a server or another PC on my internal network) I think it would probably work - that would be an interesting test.

It's astonishing to me that they don't have a simple solution. There are so many people implementing these lovely NAS boxes (I just bought a Synology 211j) and it makes perfect sense to centralize your files and then put the critical stuff offsite (irreplaceable photos, important documents, ...). The NAS folks typically partner with an online service so that's an option. I've been using Amazon S3 built into the Synology to send my stuff offsite as a temporary measure - but it doesn't seem to support incremental. The advantage is that I don't need a workstation to be on.

I'm due to TALK to the Acronis enterprise guys this morning to see if they have a solution. Mark

Many Thanks Mark, I agree with you in today's world many people keep their photo's music & videos on a central NAS box, hence why they invented them. I as I am sure you do not want to lose my valuable photo's infact being honest most people use their computers to a) store their photos b) music, c) videos. if your library of these starts to get bigger than your hard-disk, or other family members want to access them on various devices or pc's, in order to do that I have a choice, leave my PC on, or buy a NAS. I use Acronis at work and backup from a NAS so it is obviously possible why not in this software. I am disappointed, this was supposed to be the Premier of backup software but once again I am going to have to find another solution. Why can no-one just sort this sort of stuff out.

Many Thanks again Mark for letting me know, please let Acronis know when you talk to them that this a problem which is only going to get bigger the more thing's go digital. (I won't hold out hope for it being sorted lol.)

I've been an acronis user for about four years. I also just bought a NAS box for my business. Acronis can't even see the thing.

I'll be getting another solution.

See ya Acronis.

Has this been fixed yet? I just bought an unlimited license for Acronis Cloud Backup version 2015. I have a couple of NAS RAID arrays. Once I configure my backup of "Files and Folders" to the Acronis Cloud, I press the 'BACK UP NOW' button; the backup starts and runs for a while (maybe even as long as 30 to 60 minutes. However, sooner or later the backup will always fail and the only error message I get is "Operation has been aborted" along with an invitation to check for a solution online.... Well, I'm online now and haven't found a solution yet.

You do not state what version of True Image you are using. Nevertheless, NAS backup to cloud should work with version s 2010 and later. Your issue sounds like that of a network timeout error as Windows default timeout is 60 minutes but can be shorter. There are a good number of reasons for timeout errors both software and hardware related. You should troubleshoot your network and internet connection first before doing so in software as many times that process will lead to a problem and solution in software.
