Bootable Media Builder and Altiris PXE: failed to connect to machine

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

I'm trying create a bootable Altiris PXE 'medium' using the Bootable Media Builder. So I use the wizard and choose 'Acronis PXE Server' as bootable medium target. In the next step I fill out the server name and the logon settings (credentials). When I click the 'Next' button, an error message pops up: "Failed to connect to machine 'machine name'.

I tried things like using the FQDN in the machine field, other credentials, but I still the error message.

Checked the Altiris server; no firewall is running. All Altiris services are running.

Suggestions anyone?

Bye, Ron.

Any new on this? having the same problem with our RIS (WDS in legacy mode)
-finn-

Tried it all: with and without the \\, with and without the share (i.e. \\server\eXpress). Selected the server by using the browse button. Tried username with and without domain.
No clue what goes wrong, why it can't connect. And still no clue what the correct syntax should be...

Bye, Ron.

Hello all,

Thank you very much for your posts and thank you all for your assistance.

Ron,

I will certainly help you with this.

I am not sure if you have tried this, there is no mention of this from you. When you are creating the media and in the wizard type selection screen, have you tried selecting the RIS server instead of the Acronis PXE server? I have attached a screenshot to my post with that setting highlighted. As a workaround, can you try uploading the components to the RIS server without any credentials, then when you boot to it, you can try entering them there.

Please let me know if this works for you or if you have additional questions.

Thank you.
