Error occurred while checking for updates

Thread needs solution

I have two installations of TI Home 2011 Build 6942 both running on Windows 7. Both exhibit the same symptoms. Every time I log into TI an error message is generated in the log as follows: "An error has occurred while checking for updates". If I try to re-install the latest build from the Acronis web site the following message is generated "Error occurred while connecting to the update server".

Is the problem caused by Acronis ceasing updates for TI 2011? Or is there some other cause for this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Update support has changed for TI 2011 so you are correct in that updates for that version have ceased. To eliminate the error message requires that you perform a Windows Registry edit. If you are comfortable doing so here is where to look and what to change:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Settings
then find AutocheckUpdates value and change value data to 0 (instead of 1)

Hi Enchantech

Thanks for your prompt response, and your solution has worked perfectly on one machine. But on the other (Samsung R580 Notebook running Windows 7 SP1) there is no entry TrueImageHome\Settings in the registry. The only entries under Acronis are \afcdp, \Scheduler, \Snapman, \nad \Tdrpman. But the application appears to behave correctly.

Am I missing something?

try for Win7 x64

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Settings

Thanks G Uphoff. Worked a treat. Just shows it pays to consult the professionals!!
