new SSD, can't restore using Recovery Disk, can't read sector 0

Thread needs solution

I have used Acronis True Image for very many years. I upgraded to v2010 for use with Windows 7.

I have used 2010 to make backups and have successfully restored them to my boot drive using the Recovery Disk.

This weekend I purchased an SSD and tried to restore my boot drive image to it.

Upon starting the software from the cdrom, I got multiple warnings that Acronis could not read sector 0 on the SSD.

I clicked Cancel a few times and it seemed like the restore was working. However, they system would not boot from the SSD. I booted from the original hard disk and I could see the SSD, and it looked like all of the "restored" files were there.

I tried to use an Acronis v10 Recovery disk to do the restore, but it wouldn't read the v2010 image files.

So I used the Acronis v10 Recovery disk to restore an old image file I had from an old XP backup. Worked fine, no errors and the system booted to XP without issue.

Then I used the Acronis v2010 Recovery disk to restore my latest v2010 Windows 7 image. Again, I got the errors about not being able to read sector 0 ... and I clicked Cancel and proceeded with the restore. This time, my system booted without issue from the SSD.

Therefore I can conclude there is a problem in the v2010 Recovery disk as it cannot read or write to sector 0 on my SSD, while the Acronis v10 Recovery Disk had no trouble.

When will this problem be fixed?

George,

Now that I've stumbled across this post ignore my question about it in your other post! :)

What build is the Recue Disk from?

What size is the SSD, has been formatted to SSD (4K alignment) or been reformatted to a normal Windows style disk?

Does the SAFE mode option (if you've downloaded and installed it) work properly?

Does the ISO version work?

I can't attempt to duplicate your problem as I don't as yet have an SSD to play with.

I have an OCZ 100gb Limited Edition SSD. The instructions say to install it and format it like any other hd, which I did. Win7 has no trouble seeing or writing to the SSD.

The Acronis rescue disk cannot read or write to sector 0, which I assume is the boot sector. A v10 rescue disk had no trouble at all restoring an old image (not made with v2010) to the SSD.

I don't know what SAVE mode option is. I don't know what the ISO version is.

George. The Isolinux version can be downloaded from your account. See this http://kb.acronis.com/content/4831 and this http://kb.acronis.com/content/4828.
