Seagate Backup Plus ext. drive not seen by ATI so no recovery
This concerns ATI 2015, build 6525.
I've been making scheduled backups to this external 1TB usb3 drive, secure in the belief that I'd be able to recover if/when needed. After all, if ATI can see the drive to back up to it must be able to see it to recover from - right?
Wrong.
Disk Director 11 Home's recovery CD sees it but ATI 2015 can't, once it's restarted the PC.
I'm running Win 8.1 Pro, the backed-up disk is an SSD MBR disk (my system drive 'C'), the usb external drive shows-up in the UEFI bios, where it's set to 'Hard Disk'. My backups are validated, and checking them in ATI affirms that they're OK.
If no reliance can be placed on being able to recover backups, what the hell is the point of making them - or buying Acronis products to do it with?
What can I do please to force ATI to find my external backup drive?

arches,
Unfortunately there is a thoroughly discussed thread on this Forum about an incompatibility between the recovery CD and Seagate USB 3.0 attached hard drives. I understand that this fact does you no good however, I would remind you that even though support for the product only lasts 30 days recovery problems are fully guaranteed beyond that and it sounds like you do have a recovery issue. In that case Acronis should remedy your recovery issue in some manner.
The discussion about this problem on the Forum started with everyone placing blame on the Acronis Recovery Media but as of late has shifted to a degree to placing blame on Seagate.
I personally think that it is a mixture of the two with the lions share going to Seagate and Linux which is the underlying OS for the Recovery Media.
I might suggest a couple of things you might try to get the drive recognized by the Recovery Media. They may or may not work and one may need to be done several times to get it to work.
If you are using a desktop machine then you should attach the drive directly to the backplate of the motherboard rather than to a case mounted connector. It might also help in some cases to determine the first of those connectors in the series of available connectors. See the link below for information about doing this:

Another suggestion would be to boot your machine with the USB drive detached from the machine then after you have the machine booted plug in the drive again preferably to the number 1 USB port on the machine. This you may need to do several times and patience needs to be taken after plugging in the drive as recognition will not be immediate.
If you have available an TI 2014 boot media CD you might attempt to use that if nothing else as this problem does not seem to be as prevalent an issue with that media.

Thank you both for the trouble you have taken. And thank you especially for not having pointed out that I ought to have done a search before posting - which indeed I should have. My only excuse is that I had reached such a pitch of frustration (by no means for the first time with an Acronis product I'm sorry to say) that I rushed into print.
I'm in the process of digesting the wealth of information provided, which (not being technically savvy) may take me some time. Meanwhile I'm in the process of temporarily installing ATI 2014 for the purpose of making a recovery CD with that; at least that's something I can easily try!

Reporting progress:-
I already had ATI 2013 installed on Win XP (which is dual-booted with 8.1 on my PC), so I upgraded that to 2014 and created a recovery disk with it. Having done so I found I was able to recover backups of Win 8.1 system disk C: made with ATI 2015 in Win 8.1 with that ATI 2014 recovery disk. This seems to parallel some others' experience.
Anyway it solves my problem without having to get into anything more technical though when I have time I still plan to go into it in more depth.
