True Image 2014 - Cloned drive won't boot
Hi all,
I'm trying to clone an 500GB SATA drive to an 120GB SSD Drive using True Image 2014. The machine is a Dell Optiplex 3020. The clone function goes through without any errors but when I try to boot off the new drive it says No Bootable Media Found.
Source Drive: 500GB
10GB Restore Partition
465GB Primary Partition (less than 40G used)
Target Drive: 120GB SSD
I'm booting off an Acronis Bootable USB stick I generated from the software. I've tried using both the Automatic and Manual steps. No error messages during the clone process. I do get the message that since the target drive is smaller that it will scale proportionally. Once the clone is done, I unplug the original drive and try booting. I get the "No Bootable Media Found" error. I then plug my original SATA drive back in and boot up. The target drive mounts and I can see a 40mb and 111GB volume. The 111GB partition looks like it has all the correct files. I'm not quite sure why the 10GB restore partition didn't copy but I actually don't need.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Hi Shadowsports,
Thanks for the reply.
When I do a straight automated Clone, I get the following error when trying to boot the new drive: PXE-E61 Media Test Failure, Check Cable. I'm pretty sure the media and cable are fine because I've been able to copy data back and forth between the two (when booting from the source drive) without any problems. I followed your steps as you suggested switching the cables around and this is what I got.

Made some progress. I changed my boot setting to UEFI and I was able to boot up. However, I didn't end up with all the drives I expected. The 40mb partition was a bit of a dud. There was also no restore partition. Overall it's functional, but I think I might go and do a clean install. I've spent way too much time on this already and what ever solution I do needs to be rock solid. Right now I have more faith in a clean install.

PXE-61 pronounced Pixie identifies a boot to LAN feature. Your machine probably has Boot to LAN listed as first option in the boot order in the bios. Disable that option or move your new drive so that it appears first in the boot order, save and exit the bios, and attempt to boot again.

Greg,
It looks like your computer's motherboard is set to boot both UEFI and BIOS. Acronis is detecting the UEFI loader and is automatically converting the disk to GPT during the clone. In my tests the active partition is truncated and replaced by an EFI System Partition when cloning a MBR disk on a UEFI boot system. Your recovery partition is the active partition on the original disk and that is why it isn't included on the target disk. Check your BIOS/UEFI settings and look for an option in the boot settings that say something like "Legacy only" or "CSM only". Once UEFI is disabled, you can perform another clone and it should produce a MBR disk with the original partitions scaled proportionally.

Thanks Joey, I noticed that too. While in the bios disable the Boot to LAN as well.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the feedback. I actually started a clean install last night which I'll finish today. The info you provided is very helpful and I'll keep that in mind in the future.
