Browse for backup doesn't add it to the backup list

Thread needs solution

I am using ATIH 2012 that I just purchased. I am using a Dell computer running Windows 7 Pro X-64.

I started by making the backup of a single folder on my D: partition onto my E: partition in the My backups folder. I then copied the backup file to a DVD.

I then copied it back to my E: drive on my hard drive in a separate location. The "browse for backup" button sees both copies of the backup I made, but when I hit the "Add to backup list" nothing happens in either case. If I can't store the backup off my computer it is not worth anything to me.

I found out a lot working on this myself. I deleted the original backup in the My backups folder, then deleted the copy I made on the E: drive. At that point all I had was the copy on my DVD. I then click "Add to backup list." This time I am seeing the backup file listed in the My backups folder even though there is nothing in it. I then click Recover and to my surprise it lists all the files in that folder on my backup on the DVD. I am assuming that the program is not cheating and going to the original folder on my D: drive and making believe it is recovering it, but I don't know. I will have to test that one out.

If that is okay then the only remaining issue is that on the DVD I am unable to put the files in order of date. They are in order of name.

So I put a copy of another file in a new location on my D: drive. I backed it up to E:\My backups then made a copy elsewhere on E:. I then deleted the original file that I made a backup of. When I searched for the backup I again added to the backup list and again it was not moved to the My backups folder although the program acts as though it did. I got some message about version number--can't remember the exact message--but I told the program to go ahead and recover. It did so to the original location from which I did the backup. So everything but putting the files in date order seems to work, but the interface is very misleading and confusing.

Rounder,
I am using the same ATIH 2012.
Windows 7 Ultimate UK 64bit.

I have the same problem. I put a TIB file from another media onto my PC, start ATIH and do the "Add Backup To Backup List" procedure. I am very disappointed. I browse to the TIB file, click on "add to backup list" and nothing happens.

Processor load goes to 50% (4 core CPU). I wait for 2 minutes. This should be more than enough time.

Rounder, IMHO it should not be necessary that you do this kind of tests and trouble shooting. This function should work fine to begin with. I have used ATIH 2011 before version 2012, and it seems that Acronis puts out a totally new interface without testing the basic functions. Another mysterious process is Clone Disk that seems to fiddle with the source disk - that I whish to remain the same of course... Even more: it does not tell - I had to experience that after the Clone Disk the source disk did not boot anymore. Why does Acronis make a new version each (!) year with numerous functions and forget to repair bugs and issues like these? I like to have an updated correct functioning program without Acronis telling me (through mail) that they like me to buy their newest version.

In another thread about Add Backup To Backup List I read a suggestion that I should rename a XML file or such. This is no real solution but a work-around.

Same problem with 2014.
I was clicking in the .tib file inside the backup folder.
After reading this post, I clicked on the FOLDER the .tib file was in.
Then the backups loaded into my list. :)

Win 10
Acronis True Image 2015 Build 6613

Having the same problem - backups are on USB hard drives and some refuse to be added. I also don't know how to select them - there is a "Name" box and the separate backups - what am I meant to select? Also, I can only select one of a series of tib at any one time. Whatever I do, nothing is added to the backup list

I also had the same problem with Win 8.1, so it's not a Win 10 thing

Windows 7, TI 2014.

Same here. I get a message that my backups fail but they actual succeed once I read the detail logs. My backup jobs are trying to deal with an old backup chain that I moved out to another storage device and it is not in my Backup List. So I had the idea to re-add the backup chain back to the list but it ignores me. I'm next going to see if its a read-permission problem at the Windows level....

TI just doesn't deal with backup chains intelligently enough. I don't know.

Yes, you'd naturally expect that this is what Add Backup is for

Eric,

I think I've solved it. If I chose a backup that does get added and look at Properties/Security, it has a User called "Everyone" who can do anything, while those that don't work don't have "Everyone", and "MESH User" (my computer) is only set to Read. So I added a user Everyone and ticked all the permissions and it works!
