MS Server 2012 R2 Restore Problem

Thread needs solution

Just created the new Acronis image backup, and tried to restore the image as well for the Intel server with Microsoft server 2012 R2 standard edition operation system. It is the member of the domain group, but not the domain controller. It is configured with Windows cluster role by the account domain administrator.

However, the problem is found by login as domain administrator from the restored image. The message shows "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed". It causes access failure between the domain controller right now.

As checked with using the local administrator, which is normal status after restore. Please advice.

Hello LD BPVD,

Thank you for your posting! There are apparently a number of reasons why this happens, but the main reason seems to be the machine account password has been changed after the backup has been created and before restore. This can be done automaticaly by domain controller (by defauly every 30 days and it can be changed). As a result the trust relations cannot be established.

  • reset the password (or re-add the machine to domain or reset the password using the steps recommended in the following article;
  • after the machine is added to the domain create a new backup;
  • restore this new backup and check the behavior.

Thank you,

Thanks for your reply. Will it be affected the current configuration of clustering? I am using SQL cluster and Windows cluster with centralized storage as active and passive mode.

Hello LD BPVD,

The suggested solution should not affect the cluster configuration.

Thank you,
