Migrate Windows 10 to another machine

Thread needs solution

I have a PC (A) that is running Windows 10 Pro and fully activated.
I have another PC (B) that is running Windows 10 Pro and fully activated.

Both partitions are backed up with Acronis 15. I also have 3 Acronis licenses.

With Acronis I wish to overwrite (A) with (B) with a Acronis backup.

I have no done this before
From what I understand Acronis will will clear the hardware configuration, so Windows will redetect it.
Will there be Windows 10 activation issues? (Note both machines are activated in the MS cloud).
Any other gotchas?

Thanks..

Since your PC B is activated, you shouldn't have issues.
Because A is different from B, you have to use universal restore.
YOu need to have 2 recovery media: the normal one, and the universal restore one.
You first restore your image on PC B
You then boot the computer on the Universal Restore to perform the UR process. During that process, ATI will ask for the drivers of the chipset and the other disk controllers, if any. These drivers need to be available during the restore, in their *.sys format. A good way to get them is to copy the windows32/drivers and SysWOW64folder/drivers from computer B.

Thanks..

You mean since PC (A) is activated? I am overwriting (A) with (B). Although they are both activated.
Windows is going to know about a change of machine. The licensing happens in the cloud. I would figure a reactivation prompt may at least occur?

Has anybody actually tried this with Win10?

Thanks..

When Windows boots it will verify activation. If it doesn't activate right away, you will have the opportunity to go through online activationi by calling Microsoft support. Typically that works out well. If not, you will have to talk to a customer support agent and explain the situation.
Again, since computer had a valid Windows 10 license, there should not be an issue.

I just migrated a Windows 10 computer to a new computer.  The window 10 license would not activate.  I called microsoft and I must purchase a new license for Windows 10 or reload windows 8 on the new computer then do the free migration to windows 10.  The activation to windows 10 will only work for a Purchased version of windows 10.  this is a ripoff by microsoft.  They are attempting to sell a new license for a computer that migrated from windows 8 to windows 10.  Be careful.  If you upgrade to windows 10 make sure you do it after migrating to the new computer.

If you did a free upgrade to windows 10 before moving the image to the new computer, you can not activate it to windows 10.  Microsoft wants to sell a new license for Windows 10.  Not sure what I will do.  I have this problem
