Universal Restore
Obivilusly I am missing something here...I created a Boot CD using the Universal Media Builder. I boot to it, see attached picture, but I do not see how form this screen to launch the restore of the image. My boot media is a CD and I have the backup of the source PC on an external hard drive. The external hard drive is accessable from the boot media environment because it can be seen if you click to add a folder from the "Search removable media" option. So again, I can boot to the media, have all the drivers for the target machine but do not see from this interface how to launch the restore process. Thank you.

You need to restore the image using the regular bootable media and then apply Universal Restore to the restored OS.

Jim,
I think you are correct. Over the weekend I rebuilt the Universal restore media but included the "Backup" product as part of it. I think that is the key. The docs on this are not good as they do not mention this at all. However, I still got and error so not all is solved yet.
My products are: Acronis Backup Advanced 11.5 for PC build# 43800 and Acronis Universal Restore build# 38999.
Fedor, I did not really understand your response. I am pretty sure there are pieces of the "backup" product that I need to include when building the restore media. Then I will have a choice to "restore" my image from the same media. I think this is what Jim was referrring to. None of this is mentioned in the docs at all. I am trying to get this to work but pretty sure I am on the right track. Are there any docs that referr tot his that I am unaware of?
Thank you!

Attached are pictures of my process:
- Select componenets
- Review Options
- Remote logon credentials (I answer yes)
- Select Output
- Ready for media creation
The driver files are compiled with no errors.
You can see under ready for media creation that there is both the Acronis Backup and Universal Restore, this was not there under the previous media builder so this is definitly the missing piece.
- Media Creation Error
I am now getting an error trying to burn the CD. It is a DVD+R and I can copy files to it just fine.
Thanks for any help!

Try to select '.iso file' as the output and burn it later using e.g. Windows built-in burner. It may help if the erorr occur on the burning stage, not some internal error handling product components.

Wow. I haven't really been through the Media Builder in years. I must admit it is a mess! When I log in to my account on Acronis's web page I can download the bootable media with universal restore. That is the one I use. I just assumed the Media Builder would give you the same bootable media but maybe it doesn't.
The one you downloaded from your account use to be the same as the one that you built but the one you downloaded from your account kept up with new hard drive controllers and network card updates so I was told to use it.

The one I am using I downloaded from my account online.

Fedor, I will try your suggestion of the .iso and burn using different software and let you know.

I went through the Media Builder (selected ISO) and when the CD booted the first screen is what I see when I download the ISO from my account. "Backup, REstore, Disk Management, Universal Restore". I am still not sure you are using the correct media builder. I don't see "Universal Media Builder". I see Start=>Programs=>Acronis=>Acronis Backup 11.5 Media Builder=>Run Bootable Media Builder
I am using Server but I would sure think the menu options would be the same. I also can't understand why the bootable media you downloaded from your account boots to the Universal Restore. Something just isn't adding up. It is almost like you have two different versions.

Jim,
I attached a screen shot of my programs. I have both a "bootable media builder" and a "Universal Restore Media Builder". I have been using the latter because it is a retore to different hardware.
Disk imaging has been around for a long time. So far this process seems much more error prone that it should be!
Jim have you ever used O&O DiskImage? Thanks!
Fedor,
I chose to create an .iso file and got the exact same error message. Thanks!
David

I think a lot of the problems are being interjected by having two seperate programs. Acronis Backup being one and Universal Restore being the other. It sounds like if you are using the Universal Media Builder that it is designed to simply do an "after the fact" Universal Restore. That is the screen that comes up when you boot that CD. If that is the case then you have a two step process.
You need to make both Boot CDs. The one from the bootable media builder to actually do the restore then you need to turn around right away and boot and run the Universal Media CD to do the Universal Restore. That is a giant pain but it sounds like that is what you need to do since you have two seperate products.
It use to be that the Bootable Media Builder would sense that Universal Restore was installed on the same computer and automatically include it in the build. Are you sure Universal Restore isn't part of the CD you build with the Bootable Media Builder? I also noticed that when I run the Bootable Media Builder I have a place to enter licenses. Try entering your Universal REstore license there.
I think you need to get away from the Universal Media Builder and focus more on the Bootable Media Builder and get it to include the Universal Restore module.
Never tried O&O or Storagecraft. Acronis has support issues that they need to work out but I have always been able to get it to work.

I give. Why is this marked as Duplicate?
