WHY restart??

Thread needs solution

I have a backup of a HDD for a PC on my laptop. I have a HDD in an external dock. I use backup and recovery to recover the .tib file to the external HDD. After calculating I get a message saying I must restart my computer... I've never seen this before and have done this dozens of times over the years.

Why does it want me to restart? This is more than a little dosconcerting consider 1. I've never had to before, and 2. I am not recovering to my laptop.

??

Joe,

This is likely because Acronis is not able to gain full access to the target disk.  I know little of your environment, so I am not sure why or what is causing this.  If you are attempting a clone operation as your recovery method, this is expected behavior, however, not the preferred method and it might not end well.

A Disk Mode restore might also trigger this.  A partition mode restore likely would not, but again, if something has its hooks on the disk, Acronis could attempt to gain access with a reboot into the recovery environment.  I'd double check that your source and target are in fact identified correctly. Drive letters do change in both the recovery environment and in windows (if no drive letter is assigned) and more than one external device is added / removed or plugged in in a different sequence that what was done previously.  You are welcome to post more about your environment, the operation and expected outcome which might help us determine what is happening.
