Seriously Acronis

Thread needs solution

Acronis true image is all about backup.

We buy it to help keep our data safe, to speed up the restore process when something goes wrong etc etc.

To be frank and honest, the state of the software these days is just utterly terrible.

The past few days I've updated to 2016 after my install of 2015 failed to even open any more some time late last year, just straight up crashed, even failing to allow a report to be submitted it was crashing so hard and fast. Yes using the removal tool and reinstalling got things going again, but after about the 10th time I just gave up, it was worse than a bad joke.

Upon installing the free upgrade to 2016 I graciously received, it promptly failed to open claiming to be unable to create a database. Same old same, removal tool, reboot, reinstall and off it goes.

First time I try to mount an archive, nothing, no error, no nothing. But thankfully, acronis fails to open once more unable to create a database once more. Remove reinstall.

Validated the archive, fine, opened the archive and extracted some files, fine.

Ok, so I'll restore it rather than mount it, oh no, not to a smaller drive you won't, just because you could in every previous version you've owned, not any more, we are at all new levels of uselessness.

How little I knew just an hour ago. Now trying to restore that archive via the boot disk instead, click on My Disks under the Recover heading, immediate crash with a segmentation fault. Ok, I'll try Disk and Partiton Recovery in the Recovery menu, well, at least it didn't crash, thats one thing, if only it actually did anything at all.

Honestly, after something like 7 or 8 years with Acronis, I have long since felt that Acronis TI provides any sort of data protection, or time to be saved restoring rather than reinstalling.

To me at least it has become a complete and utter mess that achieves exactly nothing besides wasting my time and providing no security whatsoever for my data.

Just a rant, but I have truly had enough.

Hi Jason,

Let me start by saying that I am deeply sorry for all the inconveniences.

Since you already tried reinstalling the software, I would suggest using the clean-up utility, that will allow you to delete all the traces of Acronis from your computer.

After that, please reinstall the software and see if the problem is reproduced.

If it does, go to the services (Start - Run - services.msc) and stop the Acronis Managed Machine Mini service.

After that delete these folders:

C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Scripts
C:\ProgramData\Acronis\Home\Database
C:\ProgramData\Acronis\TrueImageHome\Database

And restart the service.

Hope this helps you!
