Restoring to a new HD

Thread needs solution

Hello people,
I am sorry if i come across as a newbie, however, recently my C: drive has been showing bad sectors and i have no doubt eventually it will crash.
My question is, i have made a sector by sector back up of the C drive which is a partitioned drive ( C and D), if the HD goes completely and i need a new one, do i simply restore the back up onto the new HD or do i need to reinstall all programs, drivers, OP XP itself?
Thank you for any help given.

Hi Ryan, in this situation I would buy a new HDD asap. run chkdsk /r on the current drive, install the new HDD as a 2nd drive, then clone from the old to the new. Then just switch the drives.

I did exactly this for the same reasons just a few months ago. I use the old drive to hold various backups, but I copy any 'crucial' backups either to DVD or an external drive too.

Happy to help mate.
If you have any questions about cloning then don't hesitate to ask.
I should also have advised to make a full disk backup of your old drive before cloning so you have the option to use that if anything does go wrong.

Don't forget. Be sure and perform the task when booted from the TI Rescue CD;
plus
afterward procedure is completed, be sure and shutdown
REboot with only the new disk attached.
After Windows has recognized and booted properly to the new drive, then the old disk can be attached--if desired.
