Turn off automatic search for old backups in TI 2015
I have used TI for nearly 10 years now (I mistyped this initially, and “years” appeared as “tears” – how appropriate for TI 23015!). I have just had to uninstall and reinstall TI 2015 build 6613 because the previous installation was broken for a variety of reasons, including a system HDD failure. So far the new installation appears to be working as advertised. I have also used GroverH’s advice at forum post 91956 so that backup filenames contain a sequential number.
However, I still have a problem that originates from the dumbed-down, simpler GUI in TI 2015. I have a number of old backups on a separate external HDD that I wish to keep as an archive, but I do not want TI 2015 to automatically search for them on startup - its default setting. There was an easy way to turn off this setting in earlier versions, but this has disappeared from the allegedly-improved TI 2015 GUI. I can stop TI 2015 finding them by leaving that external HDD switched off, but this is not an acceptable solution as I need to use it for other things. Does anyone know how to turn off permanently the automatic search for old backups, please?

I don't like this feature either. Every time I have to reinstall Acronis, I end up with 50 entries I have to manually delete. Even if Acronis doesn't find them initially, at some point, if my old backup drive is attached and Acronis is launched they end up in the left hand panel and I have to remove each .tib one by one. Very frustrating. The worse thing is, it doesn't add them as single entries like it should, but often will list each individual .TIB of a particular backup (i cap mine at 5GB each) as it's own entry.
Unfortunately, the adding is by design in 2015 and 2016 so it's not likely to get "fixed" any time soon. However, I'd recommend that you submit feedback through the application and request that older backup .tibs not be adding by default and suggest that instead, it would be nice if there was an option (like there was in 2014 and earlier), to tell it where to look for existing backups if desired, but not force them to be added as it is now.

Steve,
TY for your reply; I'm sorry about my somewhat tardy response, but I've been away.
Once again Acronis has made life more difficult for reasonably experienced uses, as I had hoped to avoid such a procedure and its additional work - especially as my bitter experience with previous version of TI is that the removal of old backups frequently did not work as advertised. Anyway, Thank You for your input.

I have followed your suggestion and submitted formal feedback suggesting that not being able to turn off 'automatically adding' was a retrograde step and asking them to restore the facility for the user be able to decide whether to 'automatically add' on startup. However, given Acronis's well documented habit of not taking account of what mere users think, I will be pleasantly surprised if it actually happens. But we have to keep trying to get them to listen!
