Worth upgrading from 2015 to 2016?
As the title suggests, I am on the fence. I am pretty consistent with upgrading various software products I own on occasion and have been doing so more or less regularly with Acronis going way back. I had a frightening experience at my last upgrade to 2015 (my questions to Acronis were basically ignored since I had not installed soon enough to be with the limited "free support" period) but I have not had problems doing backups. So now I received an upgrade email offer from Acronis that is pretty tempting but the lousy customer service and chronic new problems that seem to come with every recent Acronic upgrade give me pause.
So are those who have upgraded from 2015 been happy doing so?
Thanks,
Doug

The interface is pretty much the same in 2015 and 2016. There is more compatibility with drivers and "stability/ bug fixes" in the current version of 2016, but sill need to rely on WinPE for bootable media if you have PCIE NVME hard drives and some of the latest intel NICs. Some things like nonstop backup and try and decide still aren't working very well (for some - especially UEFI systems) either. There is supposed to be an update next month (hopefully) that will improve the default driver support in Linux and bring more bug fixes, but we won't know exactly what those are until it's released.
If 2015 is working for now (despite the shortcomings you've experienced), I'd probably hold off until 2017 comes out if you are not looking to use the Acronis Cloud version - there are usually discounts and offers around the time of release for upgrades as well. It sounds like Acronis may be changing the support model with 2017 as well, but no inputs on how it will change though - I think it will be better though with subscription accounts - not sure about the stand-a-lone (non subscription) versions.
However, if you are planning on getting the cloud subscription - I'd say go for it if the price is right. You should see the 2016 upgrade and updates for now and be eligible for 2017 when it comes out since the subscription gives you access to all new versions (not just in-version updates) while the subscription is active. If you decide to not renew the subscription down the road, whatever the latest verion you have at that time is still fully usable (without the cloud services) and would still be eligible for the in-version updates that come out for it too.
