Scheduled task not starting automatically anymore

Thread needs solution

Since I updated from True Image 2015 to True Image 2016, my backup configuration to save my system drive is not anymore started automatically, even though it is configured as for being scheduled once a week. Furthermore, I'm missing the option to catch up a backup when the computer was started lateron...

Any help appreciated!

For problems arising from upgrading ATIH between versions or builds, the recommended remedy is to do a clean install of the newer version.  You will be able to add back in your existing backup image and reconfigure the settings for it after the clean install, all your current backup configuration and history will be removed.

Perform a clean install of ATIH 2016

First uninstall the program via the Control Panel (or use an uninstaller such as Revo).

Run the Acronis Cleanup Tool (link in my signature below), then restart the computer.
Note: The KB document for the Cleanup Tool refers to checking for entries in the Windows registry - I have ignored this step on the occasions I have used it with no detriment, though if making changes to the registry, I strongly advise either exporting the registry before the change(s), or create a System Restore point, or image the drive for protection.

Reinstall the ATIH software (download a fresh copy from your Acronis Account if needed or if you don't have the latest build version installer).  Run the install as an Administrator (right-click on the installer to take this option).

Note 2: If you have purchased an Upgrade version of ATIH 2016 you will be asked for two serial numbers during the install - one for 2016 and one for the previous version that the upgrade is based on, i.e. 2015.

I did uninstall ATI 2016 and ran the Cleanup-Tool as you suggested, but since this tool closes Windows explorer I was not able to open regedit using the start menu any more. I had to do this manually by using the task manager... ;-)

Now it works as expected.

Thanks for the feedback and glad all is resolved for you.

But anyhow I do not like this kind of unexpected behaviour when upgrading ATI to a new version. If there might be some risks for keeping predefined configurations the installation process should warn the user accordingly. This is the second time I had issues when upgrading ATI to a new major version, and I do not have very complex scenarios on my machine...

I fully understand - these upgrade issues seem to be fairly random in who they impact - I have been fortunate in never having hit them myself and all my upgrades have gone smoothly.

The advice that some of the other MVP's are giving is to not let ATIH upgrade from within the application but rather to download the full installer for the upgrade from your Acronis account, then perform either an in-place install over the top of the current version, or do an uninstall / reinstall with the new version.

Just wanted to chime in that in all of my testing and actual upgrades, they have all gone fine on my 3 home systems.  As Steve mentioned as a possible solution though, whenever I receive the notification of a new version, I go online and grab the full downloader and then download it seperately.  Once downloaded I then right click and "run as administrator" to complete the install.  I do this for all software application installs/ugprades (when possible) on my system as I have found that many applications do not always have full access to the necessary files to upgrade/update when they are in use, unless you use teh "run as administrator" option to launch the installer.  I believe this is due to UAC and/or certain files being locked by Windows when they are in use (like VSS or specific .dll files).
