Can´t see selected files in existing backups - Known issue?

Bobbo_3C0X1, agreed and your approach to backups is one very similar to what I do. In my case, one image for the OS, programs installed and setup but excluding data and then others for data (which is where the files/folders come into play.)
However, I also agree that if it turns out that "modifying" a backup job that is a files/folders backup to either local or cloud can corrupt the backup, that is a HUGE problem. (Sorry, word of the times!) I was so floored when I was told this (and it's even stated in this thread) that I asked several times when either chatting or talking with the tech support personnel and/or supervisors.
They each parrotted nearly word for word the same thing. So I then asked, show me documentation that says that. I have YET to receive the documentation. I suspect that someone decided this is a rule (to play it safe) and then the idea spread with no basis.
HOWEVER, I do know it's now being investigated. We should have answers shortly.
ONE MORE NOTE! Per a "support manager" (Saeed) who called me yesterday, he "confirmed" that the next build would be out "maybe in November." I told him that was UNACCEPTABLE. We need to have this resolved today. (I get he's a cog in the wheel but you gotta press!) I fear that November will turn to December. But I pray I am absolutely wrong and we'll have something this week.
To make sure we are all on the same page, I see that there are three (3) potential problems:
1.- You can't see the selections in the GUI so you don't know what you previously selected. (Many have duplicated the problem)
2.- Any changes in the backup job duplicate the selections so you end up with folders repeated. (I have duplicated the problem)
3.- Does that corruption/duplication in the script then cause corruption in the resulting backup set and/or is the backup set corrupted if you go and modify a previous job. (Per agents and this thread - supposedly yes!) (Scary, Scary!)
Thanks to all and the more we add to this thread with our experiences, the better.
Regards:
Louis James

I think you are on the right track here.
I do a lot a video editing and have answered questions in user forums for years and have seen the same thing there, some things become myths and are considered to be absolutely true after a while and mess up other peoples work and it results in less quality output. I decided early to fight those myths that had no real substance rather than other peoples guessings or their sense of true or "i have heard..."-trueness.
I tested cloud backup in TI2016 yesterday and did several changes to it and had no issues. The only thing i noticed was that if i decide to deselect files they are not removed from the cloud backup though they are removed from the backup script. But, the backupscript were never corrupted, the files never got corrupted either. Better cleanup options would probably take care of the deselected files that are still in the cloud.

DwindleFlip wrote:I just created an account to report this. I'm trialing 2017 and there is no way to see the files/folders you've selected when editing a backup settings. this makes the program virtually useless. I'm considering buying it but this absolutely is stoping me from buying this program. This is basic and it should be working. Its not. Also I find the file list to be terribly unorganized since it lists the users folders in like 3 places (top of list, this pc, and then finally in the correct location C:\users\). Its lazy design. Fix this. I like the function of the software. I've purchased it in the past but this looks sloppy and not very assuring.
I'm in the same place as you with this DwindleFlip, I'm trialling and certainly not going to buy until I can see it working, I fear though by they time it is, my trial period will have ended.

UPDATE:
I got a call from the Acronis support team a couple of days ago and he said that this issue will be fixed in an upcoming update that will be released soon. I forgot to ask how soon is soon, but it´s on the Acronis radar. If i recall correctly the issue with sluggish interface when selecting many different files should be adressed in the next update as well.

UPDATE:
This issue seems to be fixed now!
If you are using build 5554 you can now download patch 5555 that at last fixed the issue for me: https://forum.acronis.com/forum/126983

Roger A wrote:If i create a "Files and folders" backup job i can see the files/folders i select when i create the backup job. (See the A-side on the attached image)
However, when the backup job is created i cannot see any selected files/folders when i click "Change source" in TI2017´s UI. (See the B-side on the attached image)
On the A-side on the attached image one can see that i have selected the folder Audio on my J:\-drive. On the B-side on the attached image i have opened the backup job i just created and no folder is marked for backup and the first impression one get is that TI2017 has forgot the folder i choosed. If i run the backup the folder is included in the backup.
I see this in all backup jobs i have, when i click "Change source" to either add or remove files from the backup job it seems that nothing is selected for backup and is very confusing.
The only exception i see is when i select a whole HDD.
Anyone see the same?
Roger, Acronis released patch 5555. I just applied it and I can now see the previously selected backup files when I go to update the source of a file/folder backup. Looks like it's resolved, but give it a shot in your setup to verify.

Yes i noticed that and wrote about it in this post, reply #56! Big thanks for the heads up though, it´s appreciated! :)
At last i can start using TI2017! :)
Now i wish that Acronis notify us about beta testing on the user forums and not just on their homepage. I beta tested TI2016, got rewarded, and assumed that they would invite me but was wrong. If they write about the beta testing in the user forum for True Image the more testers that actually use the product will sign up for the beta testing. If that were the case this bug would never have made it into the first release version of True Image 2017.

Roger,
There may be a bug. After installing, now, when I right click on a drive in Windows (to check properties, format, etc), Windows explorer now crashes with a C++ runtime error. It does not look like the patch can be removed on it's own so it looks like I may have to remove ATIH2017 completely and clean up in hopes it fixes it again. Are you having similar behavior with the patch or is it just me?

It seems to work here without issues. If i launch Explorer (Win+E) and right click on any drive i can select it´s Properties, etc. I tried to launch Directory Opus as well and can right click on drives without issues.

Thanks for checking. I rolled back to the image just before the update and the issue was no longer there. I will try applying the patch at a later point in time and see if I can repeat the behavior on my system or not.

This issue isnt fixed as of build 5554. This is ridiculous. There is no way to see which folders are being backed up once you go back into the backup to change, add, remove folders to the existing backup task. You want me to PAY for this software? Its been months since I logged in to politely point this out. The File tree is F'n disgusting from a ui standpoint and doesnt work at all.
Once again... If I set a backup task to backup "C:\users\username\desktop" and I click "Change Source" to add "c:\users\username\pictures" to the backup task. IT DOES NOT SHOW YOU THAT DESKTOP IS SELECTED FOR BACKUP. If I check the box for "Pictures" then save the task. Exit the edit ui, go back into the backup task to verify which folders are checked.. NONE ARE CHECKED. In fact the ui so so bad that it makes no F'n sense at all. WHY does it show me "Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos and Local Disk C:" on the right panel of the tree? Why isnt Desktop checked? It was selected for backup specifically by me? Why is "Local Disk C" checked, but if i expand it to go to the "Desktop" Folder in the tree, its STILL NOT SELECTED.
The file tree ui is terrible and it does not work.
I'm testing out Acronis Backup 12 instead of true image. I'm not a fan of the web ui but its far better than True image which is embarassingly bad IMO.

I could be wrong about this, but does not the hotfix 5555 fix this issue?
https://forum.acronis.com/forum/126983
Just saw an earlier post suggesting that it does not.
This one has been around for a long time now - I picked it up during beta testing.

Thanks for the confirmation. A possible seniors moment on my part.
