Acronis SQL Database instance: Cannot give the SA user the sysadmin server role!

Thread needs solution

This is driving me crazy!  I have tried every which way to give the SA user (including the sqlcmd method) for the Acronis Instance the sysadmin server role and have failed every time.  I cannot reset its password.  The system will not allow me to give the sysadmin server role to windows login either!  Giving the user sysadmin privileges is important for a backup of the database to occur!  How do I get around this?  Unbelievably Acronis is making it impossible for it's own program to backup its own database!  I am using SQL Studio 2014.

Michael, welcome to these User Forums.

I am puzzled by your topic here?  I have been using Acronis True Image for many years and it has always been able to backup its own database files without no special authorities needing to be granted other than the application needing to be run as Administrator to have the required privileges to access system files & programs.

If you are accessing the Acronis internal Database with your SQL Studio application, then this is not recommended and such access should be shutdown before attempting a backup of these files.

Hi.  This problem only arose after I performed the upgrade to the latest 11.7 version that became available on Monday.

Upon installation, I was given the option of installing the database using SQL 2008(or something older), or the currently installed SQL 2014 which uses "management studio" to interface with it.  Naturally, I went with latest database.

After installing the new Acronis instance, the program now requires access to that instance for the SQL module to back it up, along with the other instance that my organization uses.  Since I can't designate a sysadmin user for the Acronis instance, the backup will not run.

One more question, It was late last night when I stopped working and don't remember if I reinstalled it again without the module that requires a database.  How can I be so sure I won't hose everything up if I delete Acronis instance that is still asking for credentials?

It looks like I may be in the wrong forum!  Can you help me?

Michael, sorry but we look to be at cross purposes here.  This forum is for Acronis True Image products, focussed on the 2017 version, but if you have the latest 11.7 version, then this is a different family of products of which I have no experience.

I would recommend taking your question to the Acronis Backup 11.7 Forum where you should find other users who can better help you.
