create bootable media on CD-R busy

Thread needs solution

I just bought ACRONIS True Image Home 2009 PC Backup and Recovery software. I installed it on an HP dv6-1230m laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit O/S.
When I tried to create a bootable disk on a CD-R disk, I get a message window that says:
"Device is Busy
(0x40010)
Tag=
0x8b7f8138ebd33ebc"

This DVD device works on everything else, and it has a CD-R disk in it for recording the bootable program.
Any ideas what to do next?

Recreate the Rescue CD but do not close the tray with the blank CD.

Let True Image look for and close the tray.

Most laptop drives won't close by themselves. You may be able to leave it open and then close it manually just before (or after) clicking the final button in the wizard.

Another option is to create an ISO file (or download the ISO file from your Acronis account) and burn it to a CD using an ISO capable burning program.

I just bought and installed 2 licensed copies of Acronis True Image Home 2010. On my desktop running Win XP Pro, there was no problem creating recovery disk.

On my Sony VAIO laptop, running Win XP Pro, I keep getting similar errors to those noted above. The CD/DVD works fine for everything else, but when I try to make the Recovery Disk for Acronis, I get:

Error
Device is busy (0x40010)
Tag = 0x8B7F8138EBD33EC1.

Tried leaving CD/DVD drawer open. Tried closing it. Nothing works. Suggestions, please?

Same problem as above. Nothing works to solve it. I had no trouble creating the disc on the same laptop running Vista Home Premium before I upgraded to 2010.

Acronis needs to fix this; it's been going on far too long.

Hello all,

Thank you for posting your question, I will be happy to help. Please accept our apologies for the delay with the response.

The root cause of the issue is related to the fact that another burning software gets the exclusive access to the CD disk.
To resolve the issue please disable Windows built-in CD recording capability (make right-click on your CD/DVD recorder, select "Properties" and on the "Recording" tab ensure that the "Enable CD recording on this drive" checkbox is not picked.
Also please disable any burning software installed at your system.
The easiest way to overcome the issue is to create Acronis Bootable Media using the workaround proposed by Mudcrab.
Launch the program -> Tools -> Create Bootable Rescue Media -> Next -> Next -> Next -> Select ISO image -> Next -> Specify the location to store the file to and the file name -> Next -> Proceed.
Burn the ISO file using any burning software you prefer. Please see this article on how to burn an ISO file to a CD disk.
Please let us know the results, we should be sure that the program runs flawlessly. If the provided information is not clear or if you have any other question do not hesitate to post them and we will be glad to answer.
Thank you.

This option is what worked for me.

No matter what driver I used, internal or external, I received this error if I closed the drive prior to proceeding with the burn of the rescue CD. However, when I simply placed the blank disc in the drive and let True Image close the drive after I proceeded, the disc was burned properly.
