ABR Virtual Edition - Agent licensing

Thread needs solution

Hello,

We recently purchased two ABR Virtual Edition licenses.

I have installed the Acronis ESX Agent on our ESX servers. We can take virtual machine backups fine (although sometimes one ESX server is disconnected, and reconnects after a while).
Am I correct to assume that we can use these licenses to install agents on our virtual machines as well? This is required to backup files (instead of disks/volumes) or to restore files from backup instead of entire disks/volumes.

Kind regards,
Michael

Yes you can install the agents. But you can also restore files with the backup made with the Acronis Virtual Appliance in ESX so ;-)

Jeremy,

Can you tell me how to restore files from a disk/volume backup without the agent installed?

Just walk the restore wizard. You get .TIB files. And from every .TIB file you can restore files or do a full restore.

There are three ways to do it

1. create a new virtual machine and boot it with Acronis ISO and walk through the restore wizard

Note: Restore machine doesnt take license, even a trial version can do it

2. Covert the backup in VHD or VMDK and boot it in new Virtual machine

3. During restore wizard, select option to restore as new VM and you will get vmx file (configuration) along with your VMDK file. If you have license for Advance Virtual Edition, after restore you can even directly load in VM Host which can be VMware ESX or Hyper-V
