Installation of TI2018 fails [Solved]
Trying to adjust a folder and file backup with TI2018 the destination knob was not clickable. Thus I wanted to update TI2018 with build 10640. To do so I tried to uninstall the existing version by the windows10 uninstall facility. As this did not succeed I looked for a solution and found the cleaning utility to do the job. After several trials with repeated PC restarts the program files as well as the shortcuts in the program list (left under) and on my desktop had disappeared.
I Downloaded the installationfile for TI2018 build 20640 (AcronisTrueImage2018_10640.exe) and ran it. This ended up in the disappointing message: Installation failed!. Now I am at the end of my knowlegde to overcome this refusal behaviour of TI2018.
Who can help me out of this problem?
Thanks in advance....
My laptop: HP Pavillion 7002ed, RAM 6GB, SSD 256GB (OS Win10 fully updated on it), HDD 600 GB,

You must run the installer as an Admin. Otherwise you will get these permissions errors upon install. To install as Admin. right click on the install file and choose Run as Administrator from the popup menu.

Thanks Enchantech,
As far as I remember I did install as Admin.
But if I might mistake my membrance, I repeated that procedure. Please see screenshots (in order: Install as admin -Installing - Install failed - Failure info). As you can see: Failure again.
What could be wrong here?

Hommel, thank you for the screen images - this is still showing a permissions issue here.
Installer heeft niet de juiste bevoegdheden om het bestand C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Acronis\True Image\Tools and Utilites\Bootable Rescue Media Builder.lnk te kunnen wijzigen
Installer does not have the appropriate permissions to modify the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Acronis\True Image\Tools and Utilities\Bootable Rescue Media Builder.lnk file
I would suggest running the Acronis Cleanup Tool (as Administrator) after first doing a normal uninstall of any Acronis True Image software shown in the Control Panel.
After using the tool, check that the above C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Acronis\True Image\Tools and Utilites\Bootable Rescue Media Builder entry has been removed or else delete this before attempting to reinstall again.

Hi Steve,
I followed your instructions:
- manually cleaning remnants, odds and ends of any Acronis software even the rudimentaries. Found none. See control panel programlist picture attached.
- running CleanupTool.exe as admin. Chosen for option 2: Proceed with the uninstallation. .....and so on until instruction to Reboot.... Did so.
- Checking: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Acronis\True Image\Tools and Utilites\Bootable Rescue Media Builder entry has been removed or else delete this before attempting to reinstall again. Nothing found as my attached pictures are showing.
There is neither ProgramData folder on my Win10 C:\ disk !!! - running the AcronisTrueImage2018_10640.exe as admin.
This ended up as before "Installatie Mislukt" ---> "Installation failed".
Thus there is not yet the desired result. Do you have any other suggestions that could help?

Have you tried the steps outlined in KB 46710: Acronis True Image: Installation Fails in Windows in the section with heading: Issue types by root causes and troubleshooting step then the Troubleshooting: section further down the page.
In particular, collecting the MSI log (see Creating an MS Installer Log of Acronis Software). Based on the information in the error message, the MSI Log and Windows Event Logs you can determine the root cause of the problem.
- Disable antivirus software, firewall and all other security software which could block the installation, see Acronis Software: Making Acronis Products Compatible with Antivirus Software.
- Check in the %TEMP% folder for the recent installation log.
- Check if there are any installation related error messages in the Windows event logs
- Make exclusions to the antivirus software as described in Acronis Software: Making Acronis Products Compatible with Antivirus Software.
If none of the above help resolve this issue, then please open a Support Case with Acronis for this issue so that they can help investigate why this is such a problem?

To be sure nothing is left in the Windows Register I looked for "Acronis" in the registor editor. See attached picture: Only 3 keys C69, C73 and C76: referencens to .pdf-files.These can't be the cause of my installation problem I think(?)

Thanks Steve for your quick response: My last message about the registry crossed yours about KB 46710
Now I am going to read that item and to practice the content.
I will message you my findings later.

In my former post I told you that there was no C:\ProgramData folder. However, I found out that this folder exists but has its H-attribute (=Hidden) set! To make it visible I cleared that atribute in the DOS-like cmd-screen.
And in the file-exporer the folder now is visible.
To attack the problem of remnants of Acronis-things:
- C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Acronis\True Image\Tools
- Utilites\Bootable Rescue Media Builder....
....I tried to delete those files and folders one by one from the deepest folder on, but here I meet the error that is the same as the installation error mesage: Not having the appropriate permissions to modify the C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Acronis\True Image\Tools and Utilities\Bootable Rescue Media Builder.lnk file.
Deleting in the cmd screen is neither effective as the acronis folder does not disappear.
What to do so that I have the appropriate permissions to modify those things. I am logged in as administrator. Is this functionary not having the highest rights and permissions? What else....?

Hommel, see webpage: Folder Access Denied: How to delete any folder in Windows and try the process shown there.
Another webpage: Need permission to delete folder after Windows 10 upgrade for a Microsoft explanation of doing the same actions, with some other tips in the Replies section if needed.
One other thought, can you create another Admin type user profile and see if you can perform the ATI install from that profile?

One further thought for an alternative method you can use which I have used in the past.
Boot from a Linux Live CD so that you are working completely outside of Windows and delete the problem folder path via the File Explorer provided by the distribution.
Note: I have used the MVP Custom ATIPE builder version of the ATI Rescue media to do this from the file explorer running in the WinPE Shell when booted from the USB media.

Oh Steve...
You provided me with a lot of valuable new ammunition. Many thanks again. I assure you I'm going to shoot! At this very moment I'm not before my machine in which the problem resides. But tomorrow I will be a short while there. If I cannot finish all the advices I found among your info tomorrow, so it will be next week. I 'll keep you informed.

Hello Steve,
I solved my file-delete problem. My ATI2018 has been installed now after the deletion of the folders and files as indicated before in the errormessage of installation failure.
I applied your 2nd suggestion, nl. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-files-winp…
The other good suggestions are kept in mind to use in future.
I thank you very much for your excellent help.
Regards,
Godfried
