Rescue Media Builder

Thread needs solution

Where can I find details on how to use Rescue Media Builder?

Why isn't there a create new folder option for USB flash drive? Do the rescue files and folders need to be top level?

How do you create rescue media on an external HDD?

Rescue Media is designed to be created on removable media such as DVD/CD or my favorite a USB flash drive.  If using a flash drive the drive cannot exceed 32GB in size (only 2GB is really needed) and must be formatted as FAT32.

For more details I recommend downloading the True Image 2018 documentation PDF HERE

Section 11.1 starting on page 135 discusses the Media Builder tool in detail.

How do you create rescue media on an external HDD?

Natively, you cannot. This is to prevent you from accidentally creating a repair drive out of your external data hard drive.

However, the option I use to make this work is build a usb rescue media on a flash drive.  Take a full disk image of that flash drive.

Partition your external hard drive (this may require formatting a drive or using a third party tool in some cases as you really want the bootable portion to be at the front of the disk).  Create the first partition at the front of the disk - I leave 1GB for it so it has room to grow.  The other partition will be for your hard drive data (backup files I'm assuming).

Now choose a partition recovery of the image you took from your USB drive.  Restore the primary partition of it to your external hard drive 1GB partition 1.

That's it.
