Imaging / Cloning Options

Thread needs solution

Hi all,

First time poster here.

This is an unusual problem, but after purchasing an upgrade license for Disk Wizard (powered by Acronis) for my Dell desktop PC, I notice the upgrade will not install on a non-Seagate drive (Toshiba), and I was just recently informed that my license is only good for one machine.

I have several Macrium (free version) images of the Toshiba drive stored on a network drive, but said program will not copy an image correctly onto a replacement Seagate drive (Toshiba drive is failing).

I guess my options are to:

  • Purchase an Acronis license for 3 machines.
  • Somehow get Macrium to restore an image correctly, and then install Disk Wizard on the new Seagate laptop drive for future use.
  • Use Toshaiba recovery media, and start from scratch, but I think my recovery media is corrupt (recent recovery attempts resulted in corruption of the operating system).
  • Try cloning the Toshiba drive (with Macrium) onto the Seagate drive using an external enclosure (should be here tomorrow)
  • Purchase new Toshiba recovery media (Satellite C-655)

I have successfully restored TIB images with Disk Wizard in the past on my Dell machine, but the above situation is new territory for me.

Rusty, welcome to these User Forums.

Unfortunately, OEM versions of Acronis products such as Seagate Disk Wizard may be limited to being used only with other products from the same company.

See KB 2201: Support for OEM Versions of Acronis Products which also has a further KB link with information about upgrading from these products to the full product.

It is sometimes helpful to copy a backup image from a network drive to a local, USB one if you have such available.

If your Toshiba drive is starting to fail, then cloning or backup with any utility could be problematic, depending on the nature of the fault with the drive, i.e. where any bad sectors are etc.

One option would be to download a 30-day trial copy of ATI 2018 from the main Acronis web site and try using that with your Disk Wizard .tib backup image file.
