goofy activity read out?

Thread needs solution

This isn't a big deal, but I thought I would post just to be sure.  My activity on my backups looks odd.  I am doing incremental backups nightly.  I have a backup scheme of max of 7 versions and 3 incremental chains setup.  I am backing up to a 2T hard disk.  The total number of Gb for the disk being backed up is only 300+.

So why does the activity page say (every night) that 2.3 Tb have been freed up?  I am running build 11530.  I am hoping this is just a readout issue and not going to affect the backups.

Any ideas here?  See attached screen capture.

Thanks,

Lyn

Lyn, let me share how this looks for one of my backups which only does Full versions and keeps 3 of these before doing any cleanup.  My Activity for this task shows as follows:

2018-05-10 16_43_51 Activity Full freed.png

The above shows that ATI is freeing up just over 40GB each time the backup task runs.  The next screen shot shows the actual backup files by using the 'Open location' option for the task.

This shows that the space freed is the size of my Full backups.  Given this is a simple backup without using any Incrementals or Differentials then the size is easy to equate.

In your case, the size freed will be that of a complete backup version chain, i.e. the Full backup file plus all of the associated Incremental backup files that share the same _bx_ value in the file name - I suspect that this will add up to the 2.3TB value that you are seeing, or should do so if this is being shown correctly.

Given that you say your backup drive is only 2TB maximum size, this suggests that there is an issue with the drive filesystem so would recommend running CHKDSK /F against that backup drive then check the Activity page again when it shows the amount freed next time round.

Hello Lyn,

Looks like we had similar issues on the older builds. Would you mind sharing a couple of screenshots that show your backup scheme, schedule and cleanup rules, so that we can try to reproduce? Please send together with the system report via Feedback form https://kb.acronis.com/content/57216  (check Attach system report)

Thank you in advance!

Hello Ekaterina,

Yes I remember when I had a similar issue with 2009.  So I tried the same fix.  I re-built my backup task and waited 2 weeks to see if it worked.  This worked.  The readout is now correct.  The only change that I made from the previous backup is that I set the scheme to backup only 2 versions instead of 4 for testing.

I also sent you some screen shots as you requested at the link.

Thanks,

Lyn
