Backup file names

Thread needs solution

I just moved from Acronis True Image 2014 to 2018.  ATI 2018 is now making strange backup file names, and I want to see why.

My backup schedule is once per day, the scheme is Custom, and the method is Full.  I have 3 external USB backup drives which I rotate each day.

Here are the latest file names on one of my external drives.  The numbers used to increment by 3 because of my 3 backup drives.  But 2018 did not increment the number:

Laptop_full_full_b66_s1_v1.tib  [made by 2014]
Laptop_full_full_b69_s1_v1.tib  [made by 2014]
Laptop_full_full_b72_s1_v1.tib  [made by 2014]
Laptop_full_full_b75_s1_v1.tib  [made by 2014]
Laptop_full_full_b75_s1_v1-2.tib  [** made by 2018 **]

I expected the latest to be b78.  Why did it repeat 75?

Mike, welcome to these User Forums.

My backup schedule is once per day, the scheme is Custom, and the method is Full.  I have 3 external USB backup drives which I rotate each day.

There were changes to the way backup files were tracked in ATI 2015 & later where Acronis switched to using a MySQL database to do this.

The application is not designed to work with multiple different backup drives for a single backup task as you have been doing, and I am surprised that you have not hit this issue before now.

The v1-2.tib name ending is an indication that ATI encountered an existing file with the same name when one was not expected (this is documented in the ATI User Guide for Backup naming conventions).

You should be using one backup task per each different backup drive rather than continually changing drives to avoid this type of issue.

See forum topic: External USB drive not detected after nightly rotation where this scenario has been discussed previously with another user.
