No matter how I connect the source HD, Acronis does not find it.
Lost as how to do..

Steve, what I have;
Acronis True Image 2018 Build 13520
Win7 Home Premium 64bit up to date on patches.
USB external drive = HD that was C:
USB drive connected direct to the computer via dual USB power (Y) to SATA drive cable.
USB drive is powered from the port. v2.0
Beeps when pluged in. Explorer does not see HD.
Another PC See's the HD ok.
laptop sees all other SSD's. even old WD powered external HD.
Guess is a Toshiba laptop issue..
Ordered a SATA pwr cable to next try it's eSATA port.
Q: Why does Acronis say to connect sourse HD externally?
Could I not install on source HD, to clone to external SSD?
Thanks

Roger, thanks for the extra information.
First, sorry but do not recognise build 13520 for ATI 2018 - the last build released was 12510 per the information shown on my Acronis account product page:
Next, you can use Backup & Recovery as an alternative to using cloning, and personally, this is a lot safer to use.
With Backup & Recovery, you would make a full Disk backup of your current internal HDD on an external backup drive. Next, you would boot from the Acronis Rescue Media after removing the HDD and replacing this by your new SSD, and with your backup drive connected.
The final step is to Recover your backup to the new SSD from the backup drive then shutdown, remove the rescue media & backup drive then test all is working fine when booted from the SSD. The HDD is your safety net along with your backup image on the external drive.
Note: the above should be done using the Acronis Rescue Media to avoid issues with letting ATI modify the Windows BCD files which happens when attempting cloning or recovery from within Windows.
