Is it OK to change backup split value on a task already run?

Thread needs solution

Hi

Does anyone know if it would cause a problem if I change the bakup split amount on a task that has already run?

Currently its set to 8GB segments and its creating rather a lot of them. I would prefer fewer segments.

Is there any performance or reliability difference between having larger or smaller segments?

I tend to think having a lot of small segments is potentially more vulnerable to corruption than having fewer but larger segments.

Thanks.

BR, interesting question...  I have never used the splitting option other than the default of automatic splitting.

I would expect that any change would just affect future backup files being created and wouldn't expect any significant difference in performance.  Corruption is just as likely with any size of backup file and is normally caused by other factors than just the size, i.e. bad sectors, memory faults, malware etc.

In my experience, its fine. It will create a new full with that change and split as was adjusted. From then on, it will continue normally.
