PC locked up after cloning drive

Thread solved

Welcome to these public User Forums.

Sorry but we need a whole lot more information than just given in your topic title?

What version / build of Acronis True Image are you using?  (Shown on the Account page in the GUI)

What version of Windows OS are you using?  (Windows 7,8,10 etc)

How did you perform the clone operation?
Was this starting from within Windows using the ATI application or
Was it by booting from the Acronis Rescue Media or
Were you using the Active Clone feature?

What BIOS mode does your Windows OS use (UEFI or Legacy)?

What type of drive was being cloned?

What actions did you take immediately after the cloning operation completed?
Did you disconnect the source drive and replace it by the cloned target drive?
Did you attempt to boot into Windows with both source & cloned drives connected?

Thanks for the reply!!

No access to view info. I had True Image 2018 and prior to the clone process the program did an update.

What version of Windows OS are you using?  (Windows 7,8,10 etc)

How did you perform the clone operation?

on screen directions
Was this starting from within Windows using the ATI application  What is ATI (sorry--) or
Was it by booting from the Acronis Rescue Media or

I tried using my Win Recovery disk but the PC will not boot to it in the CD drive.

something regarding a boot logger kernel??  on the screen it shows in the top left corner "starting X64UEFI loader (v.1.1.51)...

Loading protected mode kernel...

Press (e)to edit kernel command line..."

then I get the Operation Progress Menu

Were you using the Active Clone feature?

not sure what that is

What BIOS mode does your Windows OS use (UEFI or Legacy)?

Not sure. I have an Asus Laptop

What type of drive was being cloned?

WD 10jpvx  I TB

What actions did you take immediately after the cloning operation completed?

The pc shut down when operation was complete. Then I restarted the lap top and started having issues.

Did you disconnect the source drive and replace it by the cloned target drive?

not yet
Did you attempt to boot into Windows with both source & cloned drives connected?

not yet

Thanks for looking at this issue!!

Thank you for the information.

Please disconnect the target cloned drive and try booting from Windows without any other media connected.

ATI = Acronis True Image

From the reference to  "starting X64UEFI loader this would suggest that you have a UEFI BIOS boot system.

Thanks for the info. Things seem to look up.

I removed the factory drive and put in the cloned drive. It booted up to a log un screen like normal.  System is way slow! So...I put the factory drive back in and it booted without the previous issue! Again....very slow. Everything seems to be ok but it is taking forever to move forward. I am going to let it run for a while to see if it works itself out.

Any idea why so slow?

Sorry, no idea why your system should be very slow other than that is is needing to rediscover devices or reestablish the paging, hibernation & swap files etc.

I would leave it to come up to your normal full desktop and see if it performs faster / better once it is settled down again.

You should also check how much free space you have on the drive or partitions, and free up space if you are getting low, if possible.

Everything is running fine after I removed the factory  hard drive, booted with the cloned drive, removed the cloned drive & reinstalled the factory hard drive.

The errant recycling "Loading protected mode kernel..." went away.

Will try to do some research to find the root cause.

Any idea how to reach support to get an extension on my currant ATI? They make it hard to reach out to.

Thanks for your support and advise!!

Cheers

Any idea how to reach support to get an extension on my currant ATI? They make it hard to reach out to.

There is no extension of support available for ATI 2018 & earlier versions unless you go to the Acronis Pay Per Incident support.

You could take out a 30-day trial of ATI 2019 or join the ATI 2020 Beta testing program as alternative ways of getting support.
