Can't Register MigrateEasy 7.0 Tial Version
Hello. I'm new here.
I downloaded the MigrateEasy trial version installer but I can't get past the registration screen. I get a message that says that registration failed and that my firewall or proxy could be the problem, and to turn them off and try registering again. I don't have a proxy and I turned off the firewall but still no success.
I chatted with Acronis support in India but all they could tell me so far is that I don't need to register the trial version. They sent me another install file and and tried it and had the exact same results. If I could bypass the registration screen, I would.
I would really like to try this product and maybe purchase it if it works but I can't install it. My hard drive is starting to fail so I have limited time to resolve this problem and to clone it.
Please help. Thanks.

Hi Colin.
I don't remember seeing a registration number. In the registration screen during installation, there is no field for a registration number. There are, however, fields for your name, address, and e-mail address.
Acronis Support Central has also mentioned that registration is not required for the trial version so I am perplexed why a registration screen should come up. I am sure I downloaded the trial version as Support Central sent me another trial download file just to make sure I had the right one. The install files for both downloads still have the registration screen that I'm not able to get past. I'm willing to register the software if it will only let me.
After entering my name, address, and e-mail, it comes up with the firewall/proxy error that I mention in my original post. I have made several attempts to get through the registration screen each time doing something a little different to see if it would work, but to no avail. I have searched these boards and don't see any post that mentions a similar problem so that is why I have asked for help.
Would it be possible for you to download the ME7.0 trial version yourself and see if you run into the same issue?
Thanks for replying.

I'll try it tonight.
You don't see an Acronis licence server as installed anywhere? Note you shouldn't be seeing one.

Allan,
I've downloaded an installed ME 7:645.
I now understand! You are stuck at the screen that requires a name and email address, correct?
The problem is probably with the email address.
Don't disable your firewall. Make sure your firewall hasn't blocked outgoing access to ME 7. Whose firewall software do you use?
I only entered a name and email address.
Do you use Hotmail or similar as your email address? I don't see why if you do this should cause a problem as it is just used for your local Acronis office to send you a reminder at the end of the trial.

Colin,
Thanks for looking into this. Yes, that's the screen. Can't get past it no matter what.
My e-mail is through Gmail (Google). My firewall is Norton Internet Security. I disabled all the features in the firewall and virus program but I can't actually shut down Norton, just disable features but I think that should be enough.
Even after shutting down the firewall, I still get the firewall/proxy error message. I don't have a proxy.
Here's a thought: I transferred the ME7.0 install file from my laptop to my desktop computer, which has the hard drive that needs to be cloned. I downloaded the file from Acronis to my laptop because it has a faster connection. Could this possibly have any affect as to whether it can be installed on the desktop? Maybe Acronis requires a direct download and install on the same machine for some licensing or security reason?
Thanks for your help.

Allan,
I don't think the downloading onto a different PC is the problem as I ran the installer in a VM machine, whilst the actual file was on my real machine.
I have this feeling that Nortons may well be denying internet access to ME 7.
Double check the Nortons blacklist or the connection table and see if it is listed as blocked. Another alternative, might be to try installing using the 'run as administrator' though whether that would fool Nortons (if Nortons is the problem) I don't know.
I was about to suggest downloading the trial version of TIH as that contains the ME utility, but I can't recall if that also requires an email address in order to install.

Thanks for all your help, Colin, but I'm going to give it up, at least for now.
I checked my Norton Internet Security program settings to see if Acronis was listed as a blocked program and I didn't see it mentioned at all. I guess I can try to force Norton to completely shut down and see what happens.
The trial version of TIH has cloning deactivated if I'm not mistaken.
Anyway, I went out and bought a new PC - a Dell XPS 8100 with a Core I7 processor and a 1.5 TB hard drive and, funny thing, I'm not too concerned about my old hard drive anymore. Actually I would still like to image the drive before it dies but maybe later.
Again, thanks.
