Image Explorer - B&R10 Adv Workstation

Thread needs solution

How do I view the contents of a .tib file created with B&R10 Adv Workstation.

The Management Console and License Server are installed on our 2003 Server. I've not installed any Workstation components on the Server as its the the wrong OS. The client PC's have the agent and bootable media components but I am unable to view the contents of the Archives from there as well.

A simple question and hopefully a simple answer :-)

Dear Shane,

Thank you for finding time to open the thread regarding this question, I will be glad to address it!

In order to mount or explore the image in order to view it's contents you should have Acronis Management Console installed on the machine.

You should be able to see the backup contents by double-clicking on the archive or mounting it (see User's Guide, chapter 6.5 Mounting an image, p.237). In case that's not happening, then there may be the glitch in the assigned explorer shell extensions, and the problem requires investigation.

Please gather:

  1. Exact sequence of steps performed
  2. Screenshot of the issue
  3. Acronis Info

After that please contact support directly with the information attached. Keep in mind that should there be any procrastination with the reply, you can always specify us the case number. We will do our best to speed up the process.

I will also post this reply to the thread, it may be useful for others as well.

Thank you!

Yana,

Below are the deatils of programs, devices and error message listed that appear on our SVR2003R2 File Server:-

Installed programs:-
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Server (Update 3,12497)
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Management Console (update 3,12497)
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Licence Server (update 3,12497)
Acronis True Image Echo Server Build 8,163
Acronis Universal Restore for Acronis True Image Echo Server Build 8,163

Drive Manager:-
Acronis Devices:-
Acrois Backup Archive Explorer 29/07/2010 (update 3,12497)
Acrois True Image Backup Archive Explorer (build 8,163)

Exploring True Image Echo .tib files works fine but B&R10 .tib files come up
with the following message when trying to explore:-

"Archive Open Error:- An error occurred when opening the backup archive:
Cannot continue the operation due to either the backup is corrupted or
it is used by another process, for example the backup has been mounted
as a disk."

The backups are not corrupted so I think that's wrong in this instance as I test the images. I would suggest it's a process error or something
to do with the other Image explorer being installed. I installed our server first with B&R10 and then installed True Image
Echo Server. Please see the attached in the AcronisInfo report.

Many thanks
Shane

A support ticket has been raised for this issue that I am having.

After speaking to support here's a work-round but in my opinion there is a business case for a fix.

I believe is best to centralise backups using a Server therefore I installed Acronis B&R10 Adv Workstation Management Console, Management Server and License Server on our 2003R2 Server that acts as our Domain Controller/AD/DNS/DHCP and central point for images. The issue with B&R10 Adv Workstation is that the agent has to be installed along with the Management Console to enable exploring of B&R10. We store our images on the Server and as this product is the Advanced Workstation version the agent can't be installed as Server OS is Server2003 and not Workstation i.e. XP, Vista etc. This means that you can't explore the TIB's on the Server that backed them up!!!!

A work round from support is to install ANOTHER Management console on ANOTHER workstation that ALREADY has a Windows agent. This doesn't seem right to me.....

I would suggest this to be fixed from a Business point of view.

issue with B&R10 Adv Workstation is that the agent has to be installed along with the Management Console to enable exploring of B&R10

Strange. Just installed only the Console from the .msi (no license key required) (an an XP VM but what's the difference?), copied file archive on the to the local disk, clicked on it in explorer, and it allowed me to explore it and extract some folder from it using Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V. So most likely is that your echo's 8,163 component (explorer shell extension?) takes over and doesn't recognize ABR10's archives.

The issue is that the agent for Adv Workstation won't install on a Server OS, therefore I can't explore images on the server created with the Management Conosle/Server of B&R10 and thats why they open with Echo Server as I use that to backup the Server. But like you say if you install the Management Conosle on a XP/Vista OS weather its VM or physical it will open, but why install another Managment console when I have one already installed on the server. It just that my B&R10 Adv Workstation is installed on our server to make the program central for backupsand to keep people from tampering..

I just wanted to point out that this
>the agent has to be installed along with the Management Console to enable exploring of B&R10
appears to be, in general, wrong. ABR10 Management console can explore ABR10 archives without agent.
