Home 11 cannot restore

Thread needs solution

I backup with acronis home 11 on a daily schedule. I now find I cannot restore my C drive running xp sp3.

On rebooting automatically there is a blue screen for a while and the computer boots back into windows with no changes made.

booting from the rescue medium gives error E000101f4.

Using BartPE (with difficulty), I can get to restore but can't choose the C drive as the destination because the drive cannot be locked.

Does anyone know how to sort the problem? (Further information can be provided.)

If not, can anyone recommend a replacement for Acronis which does work?

Acronis is used to give confidence of an quick easy restore when there are problems. The one thing worse than having no backup is to have spend time setting up a careful system to find that it is utterly useless.

I have now spend nearly a week trying the various solutions I could find, - and even reinstalled Windows thinking it might be an mbr problem.

I should be grateful for any cure.

Hello Jim,

Welcome to our Forum, we're glad to greet you here. I understand your concern, and will do my best to help you.

There can be several reasons for the problem faced:

  • faulty recovery disk
  • corrupted backup
  • corrupted target drive
  • glitch during the recovery process
  • faulty connection to the backup location, etc.

In order to solve the problem we need to localize its cause. Please gather the following data and provide us with it:

  1. Exact sequence of steps performed
  2. Recovery log
  3. Acronis Report from the target drive
  4. Where the backup is located
  5. What happens in case you try to move the backup to another location, and restore it from there
  6. Whether image validation runs fine

This information will help us to localize the problem.

Please also note that Acronis True Image Home 11 is a very outdated product, it's not developed, updated or supported anymore. I'd advise you to test the latest version of Home products - Acronis True Image Home 2011. It may help to restore the image as well. We have changed the GUI in it, and added some functionality, so you may find the User's Guide useful.

Should you need anything else or have any further questions - feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience, we will be happy to help you!

Thank you!

Another possibility would also be to reinstall TrueImage over the top of the existing appliation and create a new Rescue CD.

Or, creeate a new Rescue CD by downloading the "bootable media" option from you registration/download page. This alternate Rescue CD has different drivers and may have less issueds in seeing your drives.

Thank you both for your suggestions. I had validated the various backups and checked everything else I could think of, including in this forum, but I was confusing 11 with 2011. My system partition is on a SATA drive and it may have been a drivers problem ( though where the 'cannot lock drive' in BartPE came from I don't know.)

The trial installation worked like a charm, and it is a tremendous relief.

Many thanks.
